5.0 out of 5 stars <Lithium> Review
This single rocks! I, an obsessed and crazed Nirvana fan, own it as well every other CD they released and most of the singles and unreleased tracks. The three tracks found on the CD are awesome, as is expected from anything Nirvana.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lithium is the greatest song ever, but buy Nevermind instead
Lithium, the featured song on this single, is my personal favorite song ever. It has a great guitar lick, perfect pitch change, hard and soft parts, and unmatched lyrics. Been a Son is sort of a punk, fast, fun song that isn't as deep as Lithium and doesn't sound as good, but is still worth a listen for sure. Crumedgon is not very colorful, has some lyrics that are ok but...

5.0 out of 5 stars <Lithium> Review, April 5, 2004

This single rocks! I, an obsessed and crazed Nirvana fan, own it as well every other CD they released and most of the singles and unreleased tracks. The three tracks found on the CD are awesome, as is expected from anything Nirvana.
Lithium, off of Nevermind, is probably one of the most well known Nirvana songs, and is amazing. The live version of Been a Son from the Seattle homecoming is also awesome. Been a Son is off of Incesticide, a released colection of covers and b-tracks, and is also one of my favorite Nirvana songs. Curmudgeon is, one again, amazing. It was never released on a full album, and can only be found either on this single or bootlegged off of other sites. It is slightly rawer and forshadows the feel of some of the tracks off of In Utero.
Overall, I give the single 5 stars. If you are a big Nirvana fan and don't have it, you're missing out. If you are just getting into Nirvana, or are interested in hearing more of their stuff, it's a great buy.
The single also has an added bonus. In addition to the three great songs, the sleeve contains a complete set of the lyrics to Nevermind. These are the lyrics as written by Kurt Cobain, not as interpreted by others who have posted lyrics on websites.
The Lithium single is awesome, and I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Single, December 26, 2003
By
Erik (Melbourne, FL) - See all my reviews
This single is good. The songs are good too. I like other songs more by Nirvana. I bought it before I got the box set and I intended to get rid of it after I got the set but I am keeping it. Only for one reason, it has different liner notes. It has the lyrics, yes, but it also has a scan of when Frances (Kurt's daughter) was in Courtney's stomach. It makes this single a one of a kind. But, yes, the songs are good. Curmudgeon is the main highlight of the CD... it's ONLY available on this disc. Go buy it. But, the box set is highly recommended. This is the reason I give the "Lithium" single 4 stars. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this if you are a real fan, January 9, 2004

This is one of Nirvana's greatest singles. First of all it includes the studio version of "Lithium", easaily one of their best songs, but the real reason to buy this single is for the B-sides. First of all there is a great live version of Been a son, wich sounds just as good at the studio version. Then there is the previously unrealsed track, "curmudgeon", which is a must listen to for any hardcore Nirvana fan. If you are a real nirvana fan you will buy this single and you won't be sorry you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great single all the way around., November 26, 2003

The song "Lithium" is probably one of the most familiar Nirvana songs of all time, even to casual listeners. However, it is one of their best, and I for one, love this song, becuase it is one of the best representations of Nirvana's essence. One of the big selling points of this single is the fact that it includes all of the lyrics on Nevermind. I like the fact that it has these lyrics; I find them insightful.

Unlike what some people have said, I think the two b-sides are awesome. The live "Been a Son" is represented in fine form here, and is taken from a great show (the 10/31/91 Seattle homecoming show, which happens to be one of my favorites [I own it on CD]). "Curmudegon" is a demo recorded in the spring of '92, and its raw quality sounds quite unlike anything on Nevermind ("Lithium" included). In fact, "Curmudegon" heavily foreshadows the sound of In Utero.

In short, I would recommend this to people who already own Nevermind and In Utero, and are looking to gain further insight into the band. I would actually recommend getting this as part of the "Singles Box" (if you can find it cheaply), as it contains all of the singles and b-sides from Nevermind and In Utero. This single by itself, however, is still pretty damn good.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the better single releases!, November 15, 2002
We all know that at times Kurt's singing is hard to decipher. And thanks to this single we now have the definitive lyrics to the entire album of Nevermind. PLUS, you get the classic track Lithium, an awesome live version of Been A Son, and a B-side of the reclusive Curmudgeon. Curmudgeon itself is not a very crisp song. Like the name of the song, it rhymes with sludge. It's one of Nirvana's more sludgy songs. It's slower and sloppier. But it's a necessary listen to any serious Nirvana fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the only cd single I've heard that is worth owning., October 23, 1998
By A Customer
This cd is awesome. "Lithium" is Kurt Cobain's most beautifully written song ever, completely capturing and portraying raw emotion. The other two tracks are also completely awesome. As an added bonus, this comes with the lyrics to the songs on "Nevermind." (Though it promises the complete lyrics to every song, there are a few lines missing here and there and it doesn't include lyrics for the hidden track. Even with those errors, it was still worth what I paid and more.)

5.0 out of 5 stars a must for all nirvana fans, February 18, 1999

This review is from: Lithium (Audio CD)
this single is excellent!!! when i first got it i never heard the ureleased song curmudgeon so i waited through the begining of the cd until it got to the song and i was more than pleased with curmudgeon it shows that kurt is a great at anything espeicialy using effects pedals. it starts off with a little laughter then it just jumps out at you and you play it over and over again.although i still really don't know how to say curmudgeon it still is a really really great song nirvana also played "been a son" perfect it sounded just like the recorded version on incesticide, and i don't think i have to say much about lithium i think that every one who has even heard the song knows how much of a masterpiece it is even if they don't even like this kind of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars for fanatics only, February 27, 2003

this is the cd you want to buy if you want the lyrics to NEVERMIND. finally, we can know what kurdt was singing and not what we thought he said. above that, there are two songs here. the first is been a son which was also released on incestiside as well as some other stuff. the song is ok. for me it was not one of kurdt's better songs. the second song is curmudgeon which i love. great song and great drums and great riff.
personally, i think if your a huge kurdt fan you may enjoy this but others may not be so happy.
