Purchased to provide some resources for a staff of tutors, this book has fulfilled its purpose well for them. I have moved away from the job, but I hear that they are still utilizing this book.

LITSTART was distributed at an ELL / BLL tutor training session that I recently attended. Having taught first grade for 40 years, I have been trained in many methods of teaching beginning reading. I am thoroughly impressed with this publication! It explains many of the best strategies for teaching beginning language arts. The information is presented in a format that is easy to understand and contains helpful word lists that can be used in lesson planning. I highly recommend this book!

As a Literacy Coordinator at the Public Library, I would recommend this manual for your Tutors. After several surveys, we still get positive feedback as to how useful the manual is in helping create lessons and preparing both new and experienced tutors.

This book does a great job of helping conversation partners/tutors determine where ESL students are and how to improve their speaking, reading and writing communication skills with limited outside resources. I will refer to it frequently in my work with adult refugees.
