Editorial Reviews

Review

...a creatively uplifting story that will keep any reader with a young heart anticipating the next page. -- Victoria Roddel, Website: Cyber Criminals Most Wanted LLC

From the Publisher

This book meets a need with early intervention. Poor learning habits and failure identity can be well established by 4th grade when most study skill instruction begins. Working as a school psychologist and school counselor, the author was concerned about children in K-3 who cannot use the more advanced skills of 4th graders but they can use more basic learning skills if they are encouraged to use them. She created a book on their level introducing practical applications of basic memory skills. She used it along with the puppets in elementary school.

Study skills and learning strategies are rather uninteresting topics for children in K-3. However, if kids' memories were as great as some claim, they would be doing much better in school. Motivation and memory play significant parts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lesson Plans and more, September 15, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Lemon (Activities for Developing Motivation and Memory Skills) (Paperback)
I found this book by finding a lesson plan from it listed in the Gateway to Educational Materials which is sponsored by ERIC. That is a huge educational site operated by the US Dept of Ed.
The lesson plan referred to the book which contains other great plans and hands on activities for helping kids develop motivation and memory skills. I improved some of my own memory skills from some of the ideas in this book and some of the references the author lists in the book. It also has a great story and cute song (with musical notation) that helps with motivation.

One lesson plan gives memory cues for remembering left from right. Another gives memory cues for correcting digit reversals.
Another gives help with improving vocabulary and spelling, etc.

Someone told me about this book and how it teaches kids learning strategies. It does it with a story to get their interest. I've been using the ideas in this book and they are a big help. It can help any kid but especially one with LD. The writer has a website with free stuff that helps a lot too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adorable, October 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Lemon (Activities for Developing Motivation and Memory Skills) (Paperback)
The book and puppets are just adorable. It's a clever idea to introduce learning how to learn with an adorable story and puppet then to have specific suggestions like discussion questions with suggested answers, activities, lesson plans, and references. I really like this.
