Lesson Plans and more,
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Lemon (Activities for Developing Motivation and Memory Skills) (Paperback)
I found this book by finding a lesson plan from it listed in the Gateway to Educational Materials which is sponsored by ERIC. That is a huge educational site operated by the US Dept of Ed.The lesson plan referred to the book which contains other great plans and hands on activities for helping kids develop motivation and memory skills. I improved some of my own memory skills from some of the ideas in this book and some of the references the author lists in the book. It also has a great story and cute song (with musical notation) that helps with motivation. One lesson plan gives memory cues for remembering left from right. Another gives memory cues for correcting digit reversals.

learning strategies are a big help,
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Lemon (Activities for Developing Motivation and Memory Skills) (Paperback)
Someone told me about this book and how it teaches kids learning strategies. It does it with a story to get their interest. I've been using the ideas in this book and they are a big help. It can help any kid but especially one with LD. The writer has a website with free stuff that helps a lot too.

Adorable,
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Lemon (Activities for Developing Motivation and Memory Skills) (Paperback)
The book and puppets are just adorable. It's a clever idea to introduce learning how to learn with an adorable story and puppet then to have specific suggestions like discussion questions with suggested answers, activities, lesson plans, and references. I really like this.

Better grades.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Lemon (Activities for Developing Motivation and Memory Skills) (Paperback)
My second grader was given psychological testing at school but he didn't do bad enough to get any special help. He was very discouraged about his grades. It hurt to hear him say he hates school when he is just 7 years old. This book helped him feel like keeping trying but it also helped him learn new ways of trying. He is doing better in school already. And he is begining to feel better about school because he has more confidence.

engaging and childlike,

This review is from: Little Lemon (Activities for Developing Motivation and Memory Skills) (Paperback)
As you can tell from the cover, the illustrations are engaging and childlike. In a gentle fantasy, children are helped to deal with a difficult subject namely not remembering well enough to do well in school. All children don't have this problem but if kids remembered as well as we think they should, why aren't their grades better? Maybe it is motivation and memory but this book deals with both ideas.
There are only a few basic memory strategies which K-3 children can use well so these are taught in the book. It even has examples at the end of the story and it has a link to the website which shows more lessons. It also gives the ones in the book in greater detail. It also has some book references about memory skills which adults can use to help themselves and to help their children. This book really makes a difference for those who need this kind of help in school. Remember, it is for K-3 so you would not want the story to be too long. This is just right. Oh, it also has a little song and discussion questions. It is for parents or teachers to use with a child. I'm sure counselors could use it too.

Memory or Motivation?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Lemon (Activities for Developing Motivation and Memory Skills) (Paperback)
I thought my son was just not willing to remember a lot of things like, what he needed to do, which books to bring home, and all sorts of things. He is plenty old to remember thes things I think. Someone told me about this book and I read it and I tried some of the things in it. Now I know it is memory instead of motivation. Not all of the time but a lot of the time. This book helped him a lot. It had some ideas that helped me remember things better too.

I wish all children saw this before third grade.,
By Frances D. Strong "Children's Book Author" (South Carolina, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Little Lemon (Activities for Developing Motivation and Memory Skills) (Paperback)
The book has an introduction to the idea of using learning strategies for the youngest children. As the author says, most teaching about how to learn begins in fourth grade. The little story and puppet help introduce the idea on a young child's level. Then there are some brief practical uses of strategies for K-3 children. One which I love is a great memory strategy for remembering left from right.
As a retired teacher, I remember third graders who still had trouble with this. They were so lost in doing math and they had a lot of trouble reading. The book has more memory strategies for other things. This is made for parents and teachers to share with children. It is a great educational tool.

kim Boring,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Little Lemon (Activities for Developing Motivation and Memory Skills) (Paperback)
I do not like the art work or the book cover. I like a book that makes me laugh and I can learn from. It seems like the kid has a problem I cannot relate to this book.
