Blanche is gritty despite the name,

I recently began to pay attention to Spin magazine's website and its constant listing of alternative music. That's how I found Blanche and their anthem "What This Town Needs". This is authentic music, played from the heart. The growly male vocals of Dan John Miller interact well with Tracee Mae Miller's dusky female voice, and the end result sounds earnest, entreating and yet independent. The musicians are all good and the selections are choice, including spirituals and other root music cheek-to-jowl with ambiguously dark originals. It can't be described in just words (why would it be music if it could?) so go out and listen to this now.

Nice band - nice record..,

If you`re already a fan of alternative country music and indierock, you will probably like this album. The songs makes me think of several related bands and artists like; The Handsome Family, Lambchop, Calexico, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Lee Hazelwood & Nancy Sinatra. It`s a diversified album with its own distinctive sound, well-produced, with many nice songs, which immediately brings me in a good mood when I listen to them. Blanche is really a band to fall in love with, as someone mentioned earlier. So I`ve already become a huge fan of this album, despite some mediocre songs, which is the reason I gave 4,5 and not 5 stars. In my opinion, the strongest and most catchy tunes are: "I`m sure of it", "Last year`s leaves", "No matter where you go", "Little amber bottles", "World I used to be afraid of" and "World`s largest crucifix". Briefly spoken, this is a strong record from a skilful band. Strongly recommended!

As to be expected, the latest offering from Detoits' finest twangersis brilliant. A little lighter feel than the first album, but still very haunting in it's own way. Dan Miller and company are the real deal. Great mix and production(Thanks Feeney!) Everyone who I have introduced this band to has became an instant fan. Enjoy!!! (If you get the chance to see them live, make it happen, always a wonderful show!)
