5.0 out of 5 stars Little Bear is our family favorite
Little Bear is the perfect family TV show and this movie is all that and more in a feature-length package. This movie is superior to the typical Disney films marketed to children in many ways- the story is interesting and easy enough to follow for young ones. We were a little disappointed because the writter has succombed to current Hollywood trends and made this movie a little scary. I recall the episodes of Little Bear used to always be so kind and gentle. But this movie is a little different. The movie has a mountain lion that whats to eat little bear and his friends. The lion is a little scary. It also has a sad plot with "Cub" being orphaned during a storm. All ends well, but not the usual gentleness of Little Bear stories. A sensitive toddler could get bad dreams. Keep in mind this review is relative to other Little Bear episodes; the movie is certainly not scary when compared to Disney movies or regular TV.

This movie is superior to the typical Disney films marketed to children in many ways- the story is interesting and easy enough to follow for young ones. There are not unnecessary scary and violent scenes or the requisite evil witch/monster/villian (besides an encounter with a mountain lion which is handled well). The music is beautiful and the relationships between characters are heartwarming. 5 stars for this movie and hopes for more to follow (please Nelvana??)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great film, February 3, 2005
This review is from: The Little Bear Movie (DVD)
This is my 2 1/2-year-old daughter's favorite movie. She loves "Little Bear" more than any other TV program, and I wholeheartedly support it. This movie is just like the TV program, with the same messages -- love of family and friends, as well as the fostering of imaginative play. It's sweet and wholesome and well worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect mix of fun and adventure., November 19, 2001
By A Customer
This is a wonderful story with fun animal characters. My (almost) 4 year old twins (one boy, one girl) have loved this video for 6 months now. They would watch it every day if they could. Without going into detail, Little Bear gets to go camping and meet new friends, and have adventures and play time. There is a lot of humor in the story, and many opportunities to learn lessons. But nothing is obvious or irritating. Just fun. The story moves right along, too. It doesn't get boring or too slow. The scary parts are not too scary, either. Not like the Disney movies, where the scary parts are really quite frightening for little kids. This is a great movie for your little one, and leaves everyone happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Little Scarier Little Bear - Fine for 4+, October 26, 2007
This review is from: The Little Bear Movie (DVD)
My daughter is a HUGE Little Bear fan, and has watched the series since she was one. I purchased the Little Bear Movie for her as a present for her third birthday, and she watched it last night for the first time after her party. She loved it, and wanted to see it again, but it was her bedtime.

That being said, she said that the movie is "too scary to watch by myself." Now, she just turned three, and I know once she watches it a few times she won't be afraid anymore, but it made a definite impression on her unlike any of the episodes in the series.

She loved the mountain lion, even though she said it was scary, and was very excited by the eagle. The scene where Cub lost his mother in the storm may have been a little too much for her. "Cub got hit by a BIG STORM! Cub got hit by FIRE! He got burned by the fire!" she exclaimed over and over again, fascinated and scared. I explained that he was fine and wasn't hurt, but I don't think I overcame her initial impression. When Cub and Little Bear are swept down a waterfall later in the movie, it took me quite some time to convince her that the water wasn't hot.

Don't get me wrong, she loved the movie, and I know I'll be playing it for her over and over. She likes scary things, and if her father or I are with her, I have no problem with her watching it. There were spots where she laughed in glee, and we talked about the movie at great length. Just bear in mind (no pun intended) that if your little one is very little, you might want to be on hand for comfort and explanation the first time you play this one.

It's nowhere near as scary as a lot of the Disney stuff, but my little girl hasn't been exposed to anything scarier than the programming on Noggin. Again, just a little warning to those familiar with Little Bear, this one is a bit more intense than the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very cute movie!, July 20, 2003

This review is from: The Little Bear Movie (DVD)
I've been a huge fan of Little Bear since I was 6, and I'm still a big fan even though I'm 13 now. When I heard there was going to be a Little Bear movie, I was thrilled, and couldn't wait to buy it. My dad got it for me at the mall, and when I watched it, I loved it. It begins when Little Bear and Father Bear are going camping in the wilderness, and Little Bear meets a new friend, a little bear named Cub. Cub and Little Bear become fast friends. Soon Little Bear discovers that Cub was seperated from his parents in a storm, and he helps his new friend find them. It's a very sweet movie for all ages, and I can't stop watching it! I recommend this movie to any Little Bear fan! :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great movie for preschoolers, unlike Disney's scary movies, August 11, 2001
By
franq "nolansmom" (Long Island, New York) - See all my reviews
My 4-year-old, a Little Bear fan, really enjoyed this movie. Little Bear meets a bear named Cub in the wilderness, who is similar to Little Bear yet very different. Cub plays rough and eats differently. Yet, they soon become friends, and they search for Cub's parents who got separated from him during a storm. There are only a couple of slightly "scary" parts, the brief scene with the storm, and their encounter with a not-so-friendly mountain lion. We especially liked the scene where Little Bear, Father Bear and Cub are making pancakes and taking turns flipping them into the air. The movie was very entertaining for my daughter. It is hard to find appropriate videos for pre-schoolers. She finds most Disney movies to be very scary and won't watch them. I recommend this to all Little Bear fans and also to all young children.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good choice for young children, August 24, 2007
This review is from: The Little Bear Movie (DVD)
If you are looking for good cartoons for very young children to watch, the "Little Bear" series is an excellent choice. These videos are nonviolent, reasonably engaging and intelligent, and they generally teach good values and problem solving. It's not great art, but it is entertaining and won't insult your child's intelligence. Based on a series of books written by Else Homelund Minarik in the 1960s, this is good family fare -- you can park your kid in front of these films and not have to worry about disturbing or inappropriate content. Whew! Thank goodness.

This episode is a full-length film in which Little Bear meets a wild bear cub in the woods who has a rough-edged personality and doesn't know how to behave in a civilized house... Nonetheless, Little Bear brings him home and let's him stay as his guest for several days, teaching him about table manners and being polite, etc. When they discover that the wild cub is an orphan, Little Bear and his friends help him find his parents again. It's a little bit weird, but not too bad... another fine entry in the "Little Bear" series. (ReadThatAgain)

5.0 out of 5 stars Godd family fun and good music for the music lover, August 11, 2005
This review is from: The Little Bear Movie (DVD)
I don't typically review these movies, but after reading the review from a parent who hated it and liked The Backyardigans (who I also love) and Lazytown (who I have lesser feelings for) better, I had to put in my two cents. The family values and messages with Little Beear are WONDERFUL! I am not going to say that things have not come up with my very literal minded 2 year old that I wish hadn't (Like making a mark on the wall for your height), but all in all the messages are good ones. Also, unlike Lazytown, which is pumped up music all the time, I can listen to Little Bear in the background and NOT get a headache. I would Highly recommend this movie to anyone and suggest to that other parent that they take a music appreciation course.
