My 32 month old daughter absolutely adores this video, especially the snowball fights. Very sweet, with calming "magic" for a very spirited little kid. What a refreshing change to see a video with no violence or negative behaviors. We can't wait to see other Little Bear tapes. However, the ten minutes of trailers for a Peanuts video and Rugrats is just awful.

"Little Bear" is one of the best children's shows on television. However, the recording quality of this tape is awful. It was intentionally recorded in EP/SLP mode to save on tape, and is grainy and has poor sound quality. Too bad.

My children (ages 3 to 10) love the Little Bear videos. These stories are gentle and kindly and, of the handful of Little Bear videos that we have, this is their absolute favorite. The "Winter Solstice" episode is beautifully done; as a Christian parent, I've actually found this story helpful in explaining to my children what other people believe. It's about as "nonthreatening" as you can get. I cannot recommend these stories highly enough. While even Disney can come up with some pretty dark and creepy villains, the Little Bear tales are reliably pleasant, cheerful, wholesome, and good natured.

As far as I know, this is the only kids video that depicts a celebration of Winter Solstice instead of Christmas and for that reason, I highly recommend it for any parent who celebrates Winter Solstice.

I also was impressed that the "snow angels" that ate the cookies from the trees turned out to be hungry animals. That may get kids thinking critically about possible alternative explanations for things, and which explanations fit best...and maybe about what is real, and what isn't. It is a refreshing change from all the tons of Santa Clause stories this time of year.

In general "Little Bear" is always a nice, nonviolent cartoon for kids that centers on Little Bear's relationships with his family and friends.

My 2-year-old daughter adores Little Bear -- we discovered him on Noggin -- and this tape is her current favorite. It's great because it's not totally holiday, so she will relate to it far longer than throughout December. Little Bear is an appropriate character for her age because the stories stress the importance of family and friends, imagination and pretend play, and respect and love. Many have questioned the use of the "Winter Solstice" on this one, but as a Christian I really don't mind it because it is relevant to the importance of holiday tradition. My daughter and I are going to make "bird cookies" to hang on a tree in our yard, just like Little Bear and his family did for the snow angels.
I highly recommend any tape or DVD with Little Bear, although I understand that they are becoming out of print now. Bring back Little Bear!!

First, let me say that I think that too many people try & ready too much into "Christmas" videos these days. This video doesn't even have a Christmas title. It is about winter for goodness sakes. My husband & I watched this video with our 3 year old who loves Little Bear. I thought that it was precious. Finally a movie for kids that embraces the family & family values. It also shows that Little Bear & his friends use their imaginations to find things to do. What child, grown or otherwise, doesn't like to drop in the snow & make a snow angel every now & then? People need to lighten up & enjoy this video for what it is; a good video that shows good values & good fun. No violence, fighting, video games,or monsters,just good friends & family having fun together.

This is my absolute favorite children's video! I would give it 10 stars, if I could! My 3 year old son is fascinated by it, and enjoys it more and more each time he sees it.

The "snow angels" turning out to be wild deer is a magical moment...in the "OLD" Disney tradition. The songs are great, and easy to sing along with...

All in all, this is a heartwarming, family video that is full of magic and fun! Little Bear at his absolute best!

They just don't make them like this anymore. Even (especially) in the hot, humid days of summer...watch "Winter Tales" and you and your child will be transported to a bright, snowy world that is full of old-fashioned joy and laughter...

This is truly "Little Bear's" Happy Winter Solstice and Christmas present to children everywhere!~~~

All children are born with wondrous open minds and imaginations~~~It is adults who close them.

I'm so happy I finally bought a copy of this for my daughter (4 1/2). I told her we could share it, because I watch it right along with her. The "Winter Solstice" episode was perfect to explain to her some of the origins of what we celebrate today as Christmas. I plan on buying another copy for my nieces soon!

I was introduced to Little Bear while watching Noggin on television. I disconnected to digital cable t.v. but I loved the Little Bear programs on Noggin so much that I have bought 6 Little Bear videos and I just ordered the Little Bear Winter Soltice video in February. I watched this episode on television. As a Christian I did not find this particular episode offensive. On the contrary I thought it was quite warm hearted and enchanting. In one episode of Little Bear-not on the Winter Soltice- Little Bear was very sad because his very good friend Emily and her doll Lucy had to go back to school. Mother Bear sat in the rocking chair and gently rocked Little Bear while he drank a cup of hot chocolate and a tear rolled down his face. I felt so sorry for Little Bear. In another episode- it was so touching how Little Bear tenderly took care of Mother Bear while she was sick in bed with a cold. The bottom line is I like every episode of Little Bear that I have ever seen. I have six videos already. Little Bear is polite and courteous as are his friends. His parents and grandparents are comforting and good role models. Little Bear and his family and friends have enchanting and exciting adventures. If you want your child to learn how to get along with people and just plain good family values, I would recommend any Little Bear episode.

have to agree with the other reviewers; this cant possibly offend anyone....it keeps it simple and focuses on some of the true aspects of christmas; giving,loving, and warmth. i also was not offended (as a christian) on how this particular episode was written. little bear is my daughter's favorite and i honestly think they are so well written and so well done that any adult could enjoy watching them over and over. i know i do. it is nice to see that innocence is still around in children's television....as it is hard to find unless you really look.....it is definitly in the little bear movies and books.
