4.0 out of 5 stars Jimmy Stewart Meets The Stray Cats
What I appreciate most about listening to music,is to be surprised, and this little gem provided a pleasant surprise.Totally unpretentious and completely rewarding.I was not familiar with Colin James before this offering, but from now on I will be looking out for him and the band! From the opening song,Jump From Six to Six,the mood is set. This is a seriously feel good CD...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not as good as the first one
It's good "swing" music, the the First CJ & LBB album was better, more daring and edgy than this. The worst part about this is that the First album is tragically unavailable. I have it on cassette, but I'd love a CD! Still, LBB II is a pretty good listen. Another problem for me: it's kind of hard to get used to Colin's version of "Tin Pan...

This is a seriously feel good CD and who gives a stuff what the neighbours think.I found myself dancing around, but there was something else..it was the smooth delivery of Mr James that helps this stand apart.I would recommend you listen to Somethin's Goin' On In My Room, and you will be hooked. This has the familiar swing sound of the 40s with a touch of Harry Connick Jnr with a lashing of the Stray Cats thrown in for good measure. This CD will not change the world, but it will make you feel good about yourself andif you like well played swing and that big band sound,it will be money well spent. Mr James sparkles on Lets Shout, and this evenly paced offering should appeal to the veteran swinger to the first timer out for the first time away from that soul destroying papp that gets played on commerical radio, that passes for innovative and *cool*. Like every good club set,the Band can relax and slow the pace a bit,and I personally would recommend You Know My Love as a standout. I am not one to say I find it difficult to take a CD off the player, but I will admit that this can stand a bit of constant playing.I would say the third fourth and fifth plays will convince you that the money you spent was not wasted. I must admit I have not attempted to delve to deeply into the technical playing styles nor the crisp production qualities, that are evident on this recording...I have listened to this as though I was with Jimmy Stewart in the Glen Miller Story, and as though I was out for a good time.I am throughly satisfied with my journey. Do yourself a favour and spend the time to listen to this, you just might find that this CD grows on you,and that Mr James deserves to be congratulated. The shortcomings in this recording are small in comparison to the pluses, and there is a Ray Charles song thrown in as well ,what more do you want.I give this four stars and my heartfelt recommendation. swing on!

5.0 out of 5 stars Swing like crazy, man!, February 12, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Big Band II (Audio CD)
If you buy this record, get ready to dance your heinie off! Man this swings so hard you just can't help getting out of your chair to shake your bum. Not even the softest, cushiest, coziest Lay-Zee-Boy reclining armchair will prevent you from doing so. No kidding. Even if you are the laziest son-of-a-gun on your side of the Mississippi, you won't be able to help yourself. The swingin' power of this album is impossible to resist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, I keep popping this one in again and again, August 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Big Band II (Audio CD)
After finding myself obsessed with the current swing craze I am always looking for the new artist that I havent heard of not the "commercial" artists that everyone listens to and convinces themselves that they are swing/jazz/blues fans. When I listened to some of the cuts I had to have it. I love this album, I go back again and again, When cruising around town I get asked at stoplights especially song #8 "who is that". I'm not going to get indepth into comparing him to others or reading messages into his playing or lyrics all I know is that it is good and I cant sit still listening to it. I highly recommend this album

This is great jump blues any way you look at it. To you southern neighbors this REGINA SASKATCHEWAN CANADA(The disc bios and rec execs will tell you Vancouver)Boy plays the blues like he has cotten behind his ears In Canada he has 6 releases. You won't go wrong tracking down any of them, especially if you like Stevie Ray, Kenny Wayne and Jonny Lang.If Blues and Swing are your thing then give these boys a ring. You could do far worse!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU THIS CD SWINGS CAT, May 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Big Band II (Audio CD)
I don't see how you can not like this cd. Every song on here is awesome. Call it swing, blues, rock whatever just don't call it bad. Colin James shows a lot of style in this album with his swing and salsa beats. And if you're a true swinger then you appreciate the breaks in the songs where you can show off your style

Colin James and the Little Big Band have produced an excellent swing CD that makes you want to dance! This blues master is a versatile young man, who has a fabulous voice. I have all of his ablums, being able to travel to Canada to buy them. I wish he woud tour the states. It is worth it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not as good as the first one, May 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Big Band II (Audio CD)
It's good "swing" music, the the First CJ & LBB album was better, more daring and edgy than this. The worst part about this is that the First album is tragically unavailable. I have it on cassette, but I'd love a CD! Still, LBB II is a pretty good listen. Another problem for me: it's kind of hard to get used to Colin's version of "Tin Pan Alley", after having been weaned on Stevie Ray Vaughan's beautifully stark rendition....
