"Little Bird"

Biography

The pressure was off. Kasey Chambers had announced to her manager, record company and fans that there wouldn’t be a new album for at least another year. And then the songs came rushing out – 14 diverse compositions, all delivered fully formed, completed within a few hectic weeks in February 2010, during which Kasey also performed as opening act through Lyle Lovett’s ... Her song writing is superb, her voice is amazing and her heart is SO REAL.

Great songs, minimal production, and just a good, wholesome country sound that I crave for these days and so rarely hear.

If you liked previous Kasey Chambers albums, it's a safe bet you will dig this one.

Kasey Chambers has made some of the very best music I've heard over the past decade or so, and her latest album, Little Bird, continues her excellent track record. Little Bird was released nearly a year ago in Ms Chambers' native country, Australia. Expecting a delay from the American record industry, I purchased it in 2010 from Down Under. I've really been enjoying the Bird-songs over the past year, deciding that they rank right up there with the best of her stuff. Kasey's chosen genre is a roots style of country and folk. It could perhaps be put into the "Americana" category except for being made in Australia. ("Austricana"? No, sounds like a type of bird, or dinosaur...) Among my favorite songs are the plaintive title track and the even sadder "Somewhere." (I guess I like the sad songs!) But she can up the tempo too, with a bit of rock 'n' roll flavor on "This Story," a country-rock number which should be a hit if there's any justice in the world; and the foot-tappin', trad-folk flavored "Georgia Brown," with its smart chorus harmonies. Then there's "Down Here On Earth," which has a Lucinda Williams kind of rocking grittiness to it, complete with sizzling electric guitars by her dad Bill and husband Shane! Little Bird features a very good lineup of guest artists, including Missy Higgins and Kevin Bennett among many. If you liked previous Kasey Chambers albums, it's a safe bet you will dig this one.

I've been a fan of Kasey's for 5 years now. Having recently been lucky enough to catch her on tour in the US I can say this album is my favorite of all her's. "Beautiful Mess" is an amazing song..in fact she won the International Songwriters Competition in 2010 for this song. She sings from the soul and writes from the heart. Her style is def Americana meet Aussie.. It's not like much else you will hear and her voice is one in a million. I own this as an import from Australia and now from Amazon Mp3.. I love it!

I purchased this CD and found 14 songs on it. All of the songs are good, some are better than others.

I was hoping that this CD would be released in the US so that I could get it for less than $30.00 and was hesitant to spend the $32.00 without hearing any samples of the songs, but we have 5 other CDs from Kasey Chambers and love all of them, so I took a chance. I wasn't disappointed. This is as good as any of her other CDs. My personal favorite is Down Here On Earth, but I also really like Little Bird, Georgia Brown, Bring Back My Heart and Train Wreck (which includes a bonus jam session that sound like they were haveing as much fun recording it as I had listening to it).

Hopefully this CD will be eventually released in the US so more people can enjoy it and it will get some radio airplay. Kasey doesn't quite fit into any established musical categories but she takes country music and adds an Australian flavor to it that I think improves it.

If you can afford the price of the CD, I highly recommend it.

I was lucky enough to have seen Kasey Chambers recently in concert and she certainly does not dissapoint live. This CD had just become available stateside so I purchased it, and of course promptly popped it into my CD player on the way home from the concert...and despite the plethora of music I own, I have listened to this CD almost exclusively since then.
Ms. Chambers has one of the most unique voices in music today. It's almost girlish quality belies the strength and power of her music.
Her music is not done justice by snippets and samples. To fully appreciate her music you need to listen to the whole CD though a coupe of times and then you realize how simply beautiful it is, how her music just transports you. It's suits summer and sunshine so well it's ridiculous. It begs you to open your windows and let the wind blow through your hair as you warble along with song after song. Or pop it in as background music to a summer party, picnic or just hanging out on your porch.
My personal favorites are Beautiful Mess, Little Bird and Nullarbor (the biggest backyard)because they seem the most personal. But every song on this album is superior and make for one of the best CD's to come out in some time.

Kasey Chambers has done it again. I've been a fan since Barricades and Brickwalls and bought The Captain after that. I listened to these to often through 2005. I've picked up the few releases that were made up until this one, and, while they were still decent, they didn't live up to The Captain and Barricades. However, this album is back to form -- and probably better. Her voice has grown a little and now you can hear her hit notes perfectly and like crystal. Plus, there's a good production sequence on this album. It rollicks from up-tempo songs to heartfelt ballads to even a rousing rocker! (Train Wreck)

I could not be more pleased than to hear an album like this again. Kasey, come back to Milwaukee. I'll be in the front row!

Anyone who is familiar with Kasey Chambers needs no encouragement. Relatively unknown in the States, she is an Aussie legend. Do yourself a favor and give her a listen. You'll come back for more.
