Lou Bega should be cleared of all charges as a 1-hit wonder!,
By "thelightmemyselfandi" (Las Vegas, NV) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Little Bit of Mambo (Audio CD)
This CD doesn't deserve the rep it has gotten! The success (and ultimate downfall) of Mambo #5 shouldn't be used to judge Lou's talent. I love how he really doesn't have a great voice, but it's a great compliment to the mambo music. His voice is fun, no other word for it. You'll probably not even listen to Mambo #5 after you buy the CD, which is a good thing, because there are a couple of great songs. Let's get one thing outta the way first: yes, every song sounds alike, but hey, this is the year of teen pop, so who's to complain? The best songs on the album are: I Got a Girl (whih is like Mambo #5 in terms of lyrics, but it's way funner), Tricky Tricky (great video, by the way), Ice Cream (a little slower track, which works well in the middle of the CD), The Most Expensive Girl in the World, 1+1=2, and Beauty on the TV Screen. You can feel the vibe of the CD, and you start to think that "Lou doesn't care if he's being buttered by critics, he just wants to make us smile.....and tap our toes."

I love this cd!,

If i was to judge cd by how much i listen to them, Lou Bega would be one of the greatest cd's ever. I can't stop listening to it. Most of the songs are great. I loved Mambo #5, Keep on Smiling, I've Got a Girlfriend Everywhere, and Beauty on the TV Screen. The songs i like the least is Icecream and Tricky Tricky. I just wish there were less swearing though.

I am a 40 year old mother of two boys who listen to pop music all the time. When I heard A Little Bit of Mambo, I just couldn't keep my feet still. I love every song on the CD except for Tico Tico... that one is a little too much like rap for me. If you like songs that make you want to dance, you'll love this CD.

Immature, but it will get you moving,
By Cara (USA) - See all my reviews

Lou Bega's cd is everything it is said-it is sexist and demeaning to women, and it is immature. But, when you get past all that, there is a cool sound behind it that will make you dance, a little at least. If you don't take his lyrics too seriously, you'll enjoy the cd.

My Late Afternoon at Work Guilty Pleasure CD of the Month,

I received this CD last Christmas from an office mate as something of a joke gift. But I am forced to admit "A little bit of Mambo" has become something of a guilty pleasure. Along with "The Best of Blondie" this album by Lou Bega has become one of my "late afternoon get me through the end of the work day" CDs. This is mambo with a techno twist and the rhythms can get your toes taping."Mambo N. 5" is certainly becoming old (I don't know if I ever heard a song get exploited by the artist for so many different television commercials so quickly) but there are several other songs on which you can become hooked. My favorite parts musically are usually when the horn section kicks in (e.g., "The Tumpet Part II" and "Mambo Mambo") and I especially like the steel drums on "The Most Expensive Girl In The World." These are not classic songs, but they sure are catchy little tunes. The hyperbolic lyrics are such that you can not take them seriously enough to consider them sexist (My favorite: "I got a girl in Paris, I got a girl in Rome, I even got a girl in the Vatican Dome"). Lou Bega is one of those classic lounge performers where you look at his vocal talent and you know there is not much there but you have a fun time being in the room when he performs. I do not expect to own another Lou Bega album or even another Mambo album, but I do expect to be listening to this one for some time to come, especially when the clock hands at work are moving too darn slow.

Bouncy and Fun,
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Bit of Mambo (Audio CD)
Who cares if this is great music or not or if Lou Bega has a good voice or not? This is playful, fun, bouncy music. It even makes those of us who don't dance feel like shaking it up. I bought this on a whim for one song that I heard in a commercial for a large telecommunications company (1+1=2) and was hoping that wasn't the only good song on the album, as so often happens. It wasn't. The whole album is great fun to listen to. This is music that most everyone can enjoy, with a touch of naughty pleasures. Several songs are about romancing many women at once (specifically Mambo No. 5 and I Got a Girl), so if you have strong moral codes, you might want to steer clear. No filthy lyrics or violence here, so if you teens want to buy this one, I would let them. Just keep in mind, it's not squeeky clean stuff and one or two lines in a couple of songs migh make you blush. Tame in comparison to a lot of the stuff out there.

energize me,

Okay, so lou bega has a monochromatic style and sticks to it...do you blame him; it works. His songs may all sound the same, but that's his beat. If you're looking for diversity, find a schizophrenic. I plug him in when I'm feeling sluggish and cranky; believe me, I'm up and as far from the couch and zoloft as I can get. Buy this for the energy and pure playfullness; you won't be disappointed and may want to take up the cha cha.

This review is from: Little Bit of Mambo (Audio CD)
When I first heard "Mambo #5" on the radio, I thought "Wow! Great song!". So, I went out and bought the CD. Was I surprised! This CD is GREAT! So many musical styles can be found here, as well as some real cool songs. My favorites are "Tricky Tricky", "I Got A Girl", "The Most Expensive Girl In The World", "Icecream", and "Mambo Mambo". The next time you have a party, I would suggest buying this CD. This one is sure to get everyone dancing.

Repetitive doesn't have to be boring!,
By Deanna Jean White (South Carolina) - See all my reviews

The way I see it is, if this is Lou Bega's style, then that's the way he is...and his CD is definitely not a disappointment for me! Many times I have heard a song on the radio and went to buy the CD, only to find out that none of the other songs on that CD reflected what I liked about the song I heard on the radio! Boy, was I disappointed! So, finally, Lou Bega has a CD that I've been searching for. I love music that makes me wanna dance and his music really cheers me up. I think if music is good for you, it should cheer you up, and if that's in the form of dancing, so be it. Those of you who know what I mean, buy this CD if you like a music style same throughout the whole CD. Lou Bega, keep the great work coming!

A rhythmic and thoroughly entertaining tribute to horniness,
By Graeme McRae (Palmdale, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Little Bit of Mambo (Audio CD)
Latin flavored music with trumpets and a bass, along with drums, bells, steel drums, and the disco record moving back and forth under the needle along with other electronic effects. The rhythms are hypnotic (providing an escape from freeway driving). Add to the mix a little play-acting by Mr. Bega, and it ends up being a thoroughly entertaining light-hearted tribute to horniness.
