Voice of an angel, mind of a pretzel...,
By
This review is from: Little Bit Special (Audio CD)
This guy is so twisted...he thinks like I do!! If these songs were baseball pitches, they's all be changeups. He starts out with these incredibly beautiful guitar licks, he adds a honeyed voice and words of rapturous wonder to lull you into complacency then...WHAM!!!!...right between the eyes, out of left field, no idea it was coming, you get a double-dose of perversity so stunning, you can't stop laughing in time to catch all the words. So you listen again...and again. And even when you've finally heard ALL the words, you listen again, because you just can't believe it's happening. This guy could have been a serious actor, musician or poet, but anyone with a dose of talent could have been any of those. Not many could have blended all those talents into this one hilarious package; if he comes to your town, or one of his specials is on TV, consider him a must-see. Until then, don't pass by this CD; Stephen Lynch is a rare genius.

Even if I didn't want to marry him, I would still love this!,

Oh, how Stephen Lynch has grown from his humble beginnings on the O&A show...this is musical genius. Every song on this CD is not only stomach-twisting laughter, but it's actually good music! If the subject matter discussed on the CD were a little more "radio friendly," Stephen Lynch would be even bigger news! He is a talented musician with a gift for words. His sweet voice and accompanying guitar work, if played as background music, could almost be mistaken for "adult contemporary pop." Once you realize what you are hearing, the experience is changed for the better! He poignantly tackles such subjects as dating a hermaphrodite, encounters with a gerbil, stalking an actress, gay attraction to his friend, having only one testicle, his "special" friend, and (my favorite) explaining to his daughter why her mother left them. These songs are not only catchy and memorable, but you begin to wonder if they could have been written from personal experience- they are that emotional and thoughtful. This is one of the best CD's I own. It is hysterical, musically sound, mildy offensive, and well worth the money. Oh, and if you ever get the chance to see him do a live show, you will laugh even harder. Buy it. Love it. Tell your friends!

Offensive, sick, demented... but, you know, in a good way!,

Stephen Lynch is a rare breed. He is an oddity among the comedy circuit in that he is not a comedian who plays music; he is a musician who also happens to be a damn fine comic. Fans of the music stylings of comedians such as Denis Leary or Adam Sandler might notice a vague similarity in "A Little Bit Special"'s choice of absurdist topics, but this is where the similarity ends. Lynch's powerful voice and catchy guitar work lull the listener, and the disturbingly graphic visualizations contained within the clever lyrics manage to shock even the most jaded ear. Songs such as "Half a Man", "One Month Dead", and "Hermaphrodite" lack only public exposure to become instant classics; they currently hold a place of honor as cult favorites among Lynch's small but devoted following. "Priest" and "Gerbil" both hold a strong vote for the most disturbing song ever written, and even for the more senstive listener, it is a rough task to find any song on the album that isn't laugh-out-loud hysterical. As an added bonus, "A Little Bit Special" features a few random diatribes by fellow comedian Jay Mohr, delivering his dead-on impression of actor Christopher Walken, made famous on "Saturday Night Live." Altogether, the album presents an airtight comedy package that is not to be missed.

First thing's first: DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT BUYING THIS CD IF YOU EASILY GET OFFENDED! IF YOU HAVE NO SENSE OF HUMOR WHATSOEVER, DO NOT GET THIS CD!Okay, now that I've said that, Stephen Lynch's "A Little Bit Special" is a HILLARIOUS comedy music album that will have you laughing and cringing at the same time. Don't let the soft tone singing and mellow guitar playing fool you: this CD is VICIOUS and spares no one! Here's a little sample of what to expect; from the song, "gerbil": "I bought a gerbil at the petting zoo / if Richard Gere can do it, I can too" (get the picture now?) My favorite songs are "lullaby," "half a man," "special," "a month dead," "priest," "gerbil," "mother's day song," and "Jim Henson's dead." The songs are so wrong but so hillarious at the same time. That "Parental Advisory" sticker is on the cover for a reason. Not really for profanity, but the content of the songs. The songs are very cleverly written. Lynch has a really good singing voice, and is a great guitar player. Although the first time I heard a song I didn't know what to think. It took me a few times of hearing "lullaby" to realize how funny this guy is. And as soon as I saw the CD out, I knew I had to have it. A very hillarious album that has an outstanding replay value. Lynch can be heard on the Opie and Anthony show. I hope he comes out with a new album sometime soon. Stephen Lynch's "A Little Bit Special" is just that. "Special." Check this one out when you can.

Stephen Lynch is not only very, very funny, he has a very fine singing voice and a gift for well-crafted lyrics and attractive melodies that make this disc a delight. The songs generally start out pleasantly straight, then take a sharp turn into some very twisted territory. Even after you know what's coming, they're still a riot!

Stephen Lynch is the new and future voice of comedy. And oh what a voice. The man can sing. But what makes Stephen "A Little Bit Special" is his unerring ability to make any moment or situation ripe fodder for his humorous "taint." Yes, I said "taint." From the lovely melody and soft vocal stylings in "Lullaby" that explains exactly "why Mommy left us...", to the ruthless vigor of the chorus of "Altar Boy" this man sells his music. You can sense he enjoys singing his twisted tales as much as you will enjoy hearing them. Every song is good, at worst, and briliant at most. Seriously, how many CD's can you purchase that are 1 - hysterical; 2 - great to listen to; 3 - did I say funny? - 4 extremely "smart funny"; 5 - EVERY SONG IS GOOD? Everyone I have played the CD for (12) has purchased or at least downloaded songs from the web. But please, have a sense of humor, and a couple of hours...you won't want to turn this CD off.

Nice guy, naughty tunes...,

If you like your musical humor with a dark twist, Stephen Lynch will become an immediate favorite. Both of his albums make you want to play them for people who've never heard of Stephen, just so you can watch their faces as they realize what they are listening to.
"A Little Bit Special" is a studio album, and it gives you an opportunity to enjoy clever lyrics that would make morticians cringe, as well as the vocals of a talented musician with amazing control of his voice. The kicker is that the Stephen you encounter after a live performance is as nice a guy as you could hope to meet. No diva-ness. Just a guy trying to make a living who sincerely appreciates his fans. My favorite tracks: "Lullaby": It was probably a good idea to make this the 1st track. The intro showcases Stephen's beautiful voice, but by the end of the 1st chorus, you'll realize what kind of ride you're in for. "Gerbil": My 1st experience with Stephen was hearing this song on radio. I fell in love immediately, but you don't want to test the waters with this one. It's not one of his tamer songs. "Hair": It's only 11 seconds long, but guaranteed to give you shivers. "HermAphrodite": Hysterical paean to the battle of the sexes, especially when the battle's raging inside one person. (Listen for Stephen's amazing control at the end of this song.) Wait for a bonus track at the end of the album. "Superhero", his 2nd album, was recorded live. A few repeats from "ALBS", but the audience reaction makes it a different experience. My favorites: "Superhero": an interactive laughfest that demonstrates Stephen's ability to improvise, as the audience suggests superhero names you'll never see in the Justice League. "Grandfather": Who knew evil could be so funny? "Special Olympics": (the hidden bonus track) If you're going to Hell, this is the song that will be playing on the bus. I highly recommend both of Stephen's albums, as well as his "Live at the El Rey" DVD, all of which are available here on amazon.com.

Every song on this album is hilarious. Pretty much all the songs start out like pansy songs but all of a sudden, Lynch pops out these insanly funny lyrics. I think the best example of this is "Lullaby" where he sings to his daughter about why her mother left. It starts out sweet, but comes the reasons for his wife's departure : "Daddy gets drunk and robs liquor stores" Bottom Line: Buy It

Comic Genius,

In my opinion Stephen Lynch is the one of the most talented comedian/musicians out there now! He does an incredible live act and his CD is absolutely adictive! He sings passionately about issues from an encounter with a hermaphrodite to his down right perverse interactions with a Gerbil( we've all wondered about it but he dares to sing about it) In between some of the songs Is Jay Mohr from Saturday Night Live, doing a dead on impresion of christopher Walken. This Cd provides more entertainment for me than watching my dog chas it's tail, it is a Must Have!!!

I love Stephen Lynch!,

Stephen Lynch is funny, plays guitar/piano well, and singsequally well. When all of these are combined, you get a good CD! Comeon, just go thtml and listen to the three tracks from his alblum thatare located there (yes, legally), and you'll see what I mean. It's been a long time since comedic songs were used, but I love them, and parodies are old, so Stephen Lynch is the answer. I would DEFINATELY buy this CD if I were you. Thanks.
