Must have for all new parents!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Bits of Wisdom : A Collection of Tips and Advice from Real Parents (Hardcover)
Do you ever wonder how some parents know the secrets on parenting? Well this book has helped expand my parenting knowledge both creatively and realistically without being a parent yet! With all my friends becoming new parents this book was a lifesaver as a gift! It had everything I needed in a fun, colorful format that offered creative and needed parenting tips! From "broccoli sprinkles" to celebrating 1/2 Birthdays with 1/2 cakes - I thought it was an excellent resource of first hand tips! A must have for all new parents or anyone who has children in their lives! I highly recommend it!

Great Book for Parents with a Fresh Outlook!,

I just read this book and thought it was such a breath of fresh air. I thought it was very insightful and lovingly compiled. I found a lot of very practical tips as well as different outlooks on loving and raising children. The only fault I could find (and it's minor) is that some of the advice is conflicting -- one parent says to put your child on a schedule while another one says it's a bad idea. But hey, that's similar to real life, where you get a lot of conflicting opinions on child rearing! What I really liked most was that this book just provides the viewpoints...it doesn't take a stand or try to convince you to think one way or another...you can pick and choose the tips you like. So many parenting books out there feel like propaganda, which is why this one feels so fresh. Great job, Josie Bissett!

A Little Goes A Long Way,

A little bit of wisdom goes a long way. In a recent survey - between moms at the local group meeting, we all agreed, no one can give expert tips better than other parents. Everyone needs this book. A great shower gift. It is very very similar to another book I borrowed and can't wait for the new edition, that also offers tips from parents, Mommy-CEO, by a syndicated parenting columnist, Jodie Lynn. Just like Josie, she simply could not find REAL TIPS about family challenges and also has hundreds of tips on pull your hair out and "DUH," questions from the real experts -- you and me. Both books would be awesome for any new mom, any seasoned mom or any........one in between as we all count and have tried and true answers, at least they worked on our own children. These two books have the Mommy advice we have had to either beg our moms and Aunts for or just wing it. It's nice to at least have two mommies who take us seriously and finally listen to our voices.

I read the book and haven't seen it for about six months as it has been all around my mothers group. Everyone loved it. Every time I open this book I go and give my son the biggest hug. This book is fantastic it is only a pity that it isn't available in Australia.

Friendly advice from around the world!,

I am a new mom and I just love talking to other moms and dads about their babies and what works for them. I was so frustrated after reading several baby books and feeling like what I was doing was "wrong". I threw all those baby books away and read this one, it was great! I felt so uplifted by the voices of so many parents that have learned that loving your baby and listening to your intuition is never wrong! Babies are babies for such a short time, this book really captures what a miracle they are. I just loved reading all the great advice and words of encouragement. I cannot recommend this book enough, especially for first time parents! Plus there is some great advice for when my baby girl turns into a little kid!

This book is a precious comfort!,

This book is so awesome! It's my favorite kind; where you can open any page & read something great(a good bathroom book!) It was a wonderful, heartfelt read as I nursed my firstborn nearly 4 years ago, but I don't think I ever read it in it's entirety. So, I pick it up now & again, and still learn something because my girls have now hit all of the stages the advice was meant for. My eyes easily fill with tears about the joy of motherhood when I flip through the comforting advice of this book. This book inspired me - I now make my own handmade book of original advice to friends when they have their firstborn.

Save your money,

I bought this book thinking that it might (possibly) be different than others I have bought in the past...I was wrong. Most of it is just common sense of being a loving parent. I'd give you an example, but I've already taken the book back to the store to get my money back. Ms. Bisset asked for advice from every day people and, I imagine, just any parent in general for their insight, which I thought was great, but she seemed to gear the entire book of quotes or ideas from her family or celebrities, which I was highly disappointed in as it seemed maybe that's the only way she could get her book published. I was disappointed. I imagine it would make a great gift for someone somewhere, but I won't be the one giving it. I hear she's coming out with another book. I hope this one isn't the same as the first one. I'll check it out, but won't be surprised if I have to take that one back as well :)

This collection is all the proof you'll ever need that any celebrity can get a book published. A seemingly endless collection of cliches and quotes by "real parents"...each one more obvious and unhelpful than the last. I'm not even sure this book was edited, as there are literally dozens of quotes essentially saying the exact same thing. The people who raved about this book are either Josie's friends, or people who somehow failed to distinguish between "tips and advice" and "cutesy gushings about having kids, repeated ad nauseum in a rambling mess of a book". Sorry to be so harsh, but there are so many wonderful authors out there (who actually have something to share with the world) who can't get published or don't have a famous name to publicize their work. I'm glad to see this celebrity pet project languishing at #100,000+.
