This book is a simple way to introduce your baby or toddler to the Greek alphabet. My sons and I read the book. After we finished, my six year old said, "teach me Greek now, Mommy!" I just want to say that speaks volumes!

How can a book about the Greek alphabet be so interesting? The pictures captivated my children. There is such details in the faces of the pictures. You can see the eyelashes on the children's faces. I like the expressions in every picture. Pictures are so important to a child. These pictures will keep the child's eyes in the book.

What else could there be? Well, Ms. Bluedorn's explanation of how to pronounce each letter is easy and precise. She gives a short explanation and an English word as an example of how you would say the letter. She also had a picture of the English word to help you remember. I like that association thing. Hee! Hee! My older son would say the word. I was repeating it along with my children. We had a great time learning together.

Overall, if you want a non-threatening way of teaching not only your small children Greek, but also yourself. Look no further! Johannah Bluedorn truly discovered a way to get the message across to the children using beautiful pictures and easy explanations of how to pronounce the letters. Maybe after you are done reading it, your child may say to you, "Mommy, can I learn Greek?"

I am singing the praises of a book called "Little Bitty Baby Learns Greek" by Johannah Bluedorn. Because of the title and the fact that this is a board book, you would probably think that the target audience is babies and preschoolers. However, I'm an adult, and I LOVE THIS BOOK! The first page of the book explains what will be contained in the rest of the book.......there are 24 letters in the Greek alphabet and there is a single page devoted to each letter. It shows you the correct formation of the capital and lower-case forms of each letter, as well as the proper pronunciation of the letter. It explains the exact sound that the letter makes in a word (Greek is a phonetic language, so each letter has a sound of it's own, with vowels having a short and long sound). Each page has a drawing (with the letter incorporated into the drawing); the picture in the drawing represents a word with the same sound as that page's letter makes. For example, the Greek letter Beta sounds like the b in book - that page has a picture of a little boy reading a book, and on the book is the Greek letter Beta (the capital form of Beta looks just like our capital B). The book ends with a quick reference page, listing all the Greek letters, upper and lower-case forms of each, and the sounds they make.
Yes, I believe that a young toddler could learn basic Greek by having this book read to him by his parents. However, I also think that any age person who would like to start a study of Greek would greatly benefit from this book. Because it is a board book format, it is very sturdy, and will hold up to lots and lots of use. If you or anyone in your family has an interest in the Greek language, and you're not exactly sure where to start, I would highly recommend adding this little book to your home library. It's a book that everyone in your family will pick up and look at, and the drawings are great! Johannah Bluedorn has done it again!

I never would've thought to even attempt to introduce the Greek alphabet to my children. But since I really enjoy Johannah Bluedorn's illustrations, I thought Why not? I received Little Bitty Baby Learns Greek in the mail and was excited that is was a boardbook! Hooray! I can actually leave this one out for the kids (the baby included) to look at without having to worry about torn pages or pages wrinkled by slobber and sippy cups.

This book teaches the alphabet for Biblical Greek. Each letter is introduced on a page and includes the capital letter, lowercase, pronunciation and letter sounds. The kids' favorite part was, of course, the beautiful illustrations. By the way, their favorite letter was kappa. Why? Because kappa says the c sounds as in candy. Mmmm...they just loved the picture of the candy in the glass jars... Simple logic, huh? And if they were to remember even one letter of Biblical Greek, it will most definitely be kappa!

While I don't currently plan on teaching the Greek language to my children, we will definitely go over this book many more times. It did make the idea of teaching Greek a little less intimidating... So who knows what the future may hold for us...

This book also allowed for some great discussions that we would not have otherwise had. For example, we talked about the books of the Bible and how they were originally written in a different language. And how different languages have different alphabets...and some of these alphabets have sounds and letters very similar to our own English alphabet! Believe it or not, we even discussed translations and King James...which then led to a brief conversation about people in other countries who do not have a Bible in their own language.

I think this talk of other languages and countries could be expanded even more. I'm sure they would be very interested in talking about some of the missionaries our church supports. And that, of course, could branch out into lessons on geography, other cultures and who knows what else!

I would definitely recommend Little Bitty Baby Learns Greek by Johannah Bluedorn (or any of her other books as well). The illustrations are lovely, the products high quality and the content inspiring!

If you want your child to learn the Greek alphabet as pronounced in English, this is the book for you. If you want to teach your child the Greek alphabet IN GREEK, look elsewhere. I was personally disappointed as it was not what I was looking for.

I was very excited to buy this book for my niece. When I read it I realize that this was not written by a Greek person. The letters are pronounced in the way you would learn at a sorority. For example, B is for 'beta' (not vee-ta), M is pronounced 'mu' (not mi)... and so on. Still looking for a good book for children.
