2.0 out of 5 stars Did I read the same book?
This book was chosen by a member in my book club. I was so excited about reading it, because I thought it was going to be wonderful. I wonder why she chose this book. 2 of the other members thought it sucked too. I am very disappointed, With a scrumptious title and delicious cover I can't believe the inside was cardboard soup.

Courtney Andrews is approaching thirty, and she feels her biological clock ticking. Adding to her anxiety is the fact that her cousin, who is the same age, is getting married. All is not lost; Courtney is the recipient of her cousin's little black book. But after a few dates Courtney wonders if the book is a curse, because the first three encounters yielded an embezzler, a man on the DL, and an egotistical jerk. Her patience has run out so she tosses the book into a dresser drawer and puts her time into building her business.

Lake Masters is approaching forty and is the only one of the four Masters brothers who is not attached. While he thinks his brothers have all married well, he is not convinced that is the route for him. A chance sighting of Courtney peaks more than his interest, unfortunately it is just before he has to travel to Paris on business. Lake promises himself he will satisfy his curiosity as soon as he is back in the states. He gets his opportunity when he attends a celebration for the newly married couple; he's friends with the man Courtney's cousin married. Lake seizes the moment and Courtney seizes his heart, but after her last three encounters Courtney worries Lake is too normal to be true

HER LITTLE BLACK BOOK is aggressive and just a little unusual; Ms. Jackson gives us real women with real problems. Along with Courtney and Lake's story are several secondary stories, which cover the gamut of female situations. Interracial marriage, commitment issues, empowerment, infidelity, even sexual addiction are handled in a mature and sometimes comical way. As the story ends, readers will realize ultimately this story is about the sometimes painful steps passionate, sensual women make when they take charge of their lives. Oh yeah, the little black book does come back into the picture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finding Love By Any Means Necessary, April 1, 2008
This review is from: Her Little Black Book (Paperback)
Brenda Jackson's Little Black Book is a romance story filled with something for everyone. Courtney Andrews is overjoyed that her cousin, Sonya, found her soul mate and is about to get married. Sonya gives Courtney her "Little Black Book" with the hope that she would also find love and romance. Overjoyed, Courtney sets out to find the man of her dreams and begins making calls. But after three failed attempts, she begins to wonder whether the book would be helpful at all. Little does she know Lake Masters, who is handsome, wealthy, and available, has already spotted Courtney and he puts a plan in motion to win her over. Before Courtney can surrender her feelings for Lake, she has to accept the fact that all men are not alike.

Brenda Jackson put together a wonderful story. She also gives insight to how relationships are witnessed by others and how the opinions of others can impact a person's decision. The romance shared between Courtney and Lake was very sensual and left you wanting to read more. Jackson also gives you a bit of suspense and teaser for an additional story. This book is recommended for the mature reader who loves romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Her Little Black Book, April 9, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Her Little Black Book (Paperback)
You will not be disappointed with this book, you will get to catch with all of the Masters. I tell Brenda's has several stories going on in this book. You will meet the parents of Courtney and Sonya's (Courney cousin).

Courtney Andrews is at the wedding of her cousin (Sonya) and it wondering if she will ever have what her cousin has. She is 29-year-old single, and a not real big on marriage since her parent married for 30 years, and Courtney has witness nothing but infidelity from her father and her Uncle Joe during that time. Courtney and Sonya both have issue with trust and with fathers like that anybody would. But Sonya hit the mother load and found a man who loves her completed and she trust him with her HEART, Mike will just make you melt. Sonya know what Courtney is going through and she give her the legendary black book. That is where the fun comes in for courtney, but the reader are going to enjoy the men she meet.

Now meet Lake Masters reader if you rememeber those Master trust me when I say Lake is no difference boy oh boy is the man fine. Lake sees Courtney from a far and is taken with her from the beginning but being a Master he make it his business to find out about her, and he get his chance when Brandy throws a welcome home party and of course Lake Masters is invited.

Lake Master is older, handsome and is second oldest of the Masters men and the only one not married. Lake is mature and don't like a drama. Grey Master see how much Lake is interest in Courtney and often to introduce them but Lake being Lake tell him no and that he does not want any of his sisters-in-law to interfer. Lake make the decision to meet Courtney on his own and that just what he does. Ladies you talking about a MAN wiht confidence that is LAKE. He knows what he want and he goes after it. It take Lake no time to figure out that Courtney is the one for him but convnce Courtney they are meant to be.

You will not be able to put this book down once you begin reading it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected, April 25, 2008
This review is from: Her Little Black Book (Paperback)
I won't give away what the book is about, but I will say that it's not what I expected. It was a good book, but not a Brenda Jackson favorite. There were too many other stories going on at the same time. The focus kept leaving the main characters and focusing on the sub-characters. It was as if story for the main characters were never fully developed and Brenda needed some interference in order to complete the book. But with that said, it was still good, interesting with great love scenes -- borderline erotica -- and lots of drama.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely for Mature Readers, April 26, 2008
This review is from: Her Little Black Book (Paperback)
This book was great. It had issues that mature minded readers would enjoy with real life issues. Don't get me wrong. It wasn't too serious. There were a few LOL moments. The love scenes were GOOOD. I liked the way the Lake Masters acted as a tried and true Masters and made Courtney feel that she was that missing link to his life long happiness. I also enjoyed the story about her scandalous dad, who always thinks with the wrong head. Mrs. Jackson did an excellent job of writing these stories within a story. I wonder what's going to happen with her Aunt's new romance? Perhaps this story is another book?

4.0 out of 5 stars Everyone Comes With Drama, April 7, 2008
This review is from: Her Little Black Book (Paperback)
Courtney Andrews is a 29-year-old single, attractive woman who is not sure that she will ever find true love. Her parents have been married for 30 years, and Courtney has witness nothing but infidelity from her father and her Uncle Joe during that time. Both men have shown her and her soon-to-be-married cousin Sonya Morrison how not to trust men. Sonya is tough, going through men like water and does not have a shameful bone in her body. She finds the man of her dreams and gives up the belief that all men are like their parents. She accepts love and decides to go ahead and give marriage a try. Passing her legendary black book to Courtney to help her get the ball rolling on finding her dream man, Sonya makes Courtney promise to call some of the men and go on dates.

After the wedding, Courtney decides she will call a few of the men. Disaster after disaster has Courtney questioning whether she is able to find a decent man, or if she should throw that little black book away and give up altogether. Sonya and her new husband return to the states for a welcome home party thrown by one of Sonya's closest friends Brandy Masters. Also attending the party is Brandy's brother in-law Lake Masters.

Lake Master is a 39-year-old successful, handsome man who is the second oldest of the Masters men and the only one not married. Married to his job with a "no tolerance level" for drama, Lake only deals with women on an "as needed" basis. Spotting Courtney on her way to work one day, Lake knows he has to find out who that woman is that has his mind all in a blur. Meeting at Sonya's welcome home party, Lake tries to convince Courtney they are meant to be on their first meeting. Courtney thinks Lake is completely out of his mind, but the way her body is responding to this man has her questioning if she is the one out of her mind and not Lake! Going on their first date has both Courtney and Lake all shook up. Deciding she would give it a try with Lake, Courtney can't believe he is really all the things she's ever wanted in a man.

I must say, Brenda Jackson once again delivers a wonderful love story that has you questioning if there really are men out here like the characters she creates in her novels. This isn't necessarily a continuation of the Masters series; however, the main character is a Masters brother. I enjoyed reading about the new characters added on and reading a little about the old characters. One thing that Ms. Jackson did come with was the Drama! I think anyone will enjoy Her Little Black Book.

5.0 out of 5 stars As usual-Great Book!!!, April 7, 2008
This review is from: Her Little Black Book (Paperback)
Great read as Mrs Jackson usually does, what can I say about her that I haven't said before. And this book is no exception. I really enjoyed the romance between Lake and Courtney, and I loved the fact that the man knew exactly what and who he wanted, and did what he had to do to get her. It was nice catching up with the Savvy Sista's and even Faith and Shane (What a Woman Wants). I liked the twists in the story and some parts made me hoppin' mad ( now that's a good book). It was a 1-day read ( as all her books are) but nevertheless, Great Book !!!!!
