Interactive Fun,
This review is from: Little Black Book (Board book)
I wish that adult books had scratch and sniff options (for the most part)! Renee Khatami's LITTLE BLACK BOOK is a fun board book that will appeal to toddlers. Although it is very short, the interactive options will have young readers returning to its pages again and again. Featuring a soft bunny, smooth velvet, and spiky cat whiskers, this would be a great addition to your board book collection.

I was hoping for something kind of fun for my daughter to read. I can't even give you a specific reason why I don't like this book but I just don't love it and it did not capture her attention either. I also felt the binding was very loose for a board book and I don't think it will hold up very well.

Just in time for Halloween treats, with legs to carry it through New Year's Eve, Renee Khatami's Little Black Book is the essential board book for sophisticates ages 2 and up, up, up! If you love black velvet, top hats and magic tricks, are a softie for bunnies, bats and cats, like to laugh, touch, put on disguises, and smell the licorice, you will turn to this book whenever you need a lift. The last pages, showing a night sky lit only by silver stars, are to sigh for. I love my little black book. It is elegant, witty, and beautiful, and sorry, kids, I don't intend to part with it. I will, however, share my copy with little visitors on Halloween and any time a dinner guest gets stir-crazy--a magic trick I learned with its adorable sibling, Khatami's Little Pink Book. Presto: Instant quiet time!

My daughter loves this book. She keeps it on her nightable and enjoys the soft fur of the pet bunny. She likes the imagination of dress up disguises - what can she think of to be - a cat - disguise? - And she loves the night sky.A great book to remind her of the senses of touch, smell, imagination. Highly recommend this for a child 1 to 5.

I loved the Little Pink Book, and the Little Black Book is another great scratch and sniff ,Love the licorice. This is a wonderful way for children to learn through touch and smell. I hope to see many more little books of color.!!!!!!!!

Large format (7-½" square) board book. Nice selection of touch-and-feel features, including 'lift the flap' and 'scratch 'n' sniff.'I think a black color-centric book is useful in a world of colorful toys. Don't very young babies only see in black and white, anyway? The photos are very clear and the touch-and-feel features seem very sturdy. Perhaps future printings might include a small coda for parents who wish to explain to their children (or learn themselves!) if black is all colors or rather the absence of color. In my opinion, every page should start with the "black is..." preface. Young children appreciate repetition, and doing so would also improve the cadence. This book seems best suited for girls: There are no clearly identifiable boys in any of the photos, and some of the selections are *very* girly, i.e., the black velvet dress. As it is, I would happily purchase this for a baby girl. [The reviewer was provided with a complimentary copy of the book.] |
