5.0 out of 5 stars TREASURE TO ALL WHO BELIEVE IN HUMANITY
ALL CHILDREN AND ADULTS SHOULD ENJOY THIS BOOK. IT CELEBRATES THE ETERNAL DESIRE OF HUMANITY TO KEEP SEARCHING AND MOVING DESPITE ALL THE DANGERS AND UNCERTAINTIES WHICH ACCOMPANY SUCH ENDEAVOURS. IT ALSO HIGHLIGHTS THE DOGMA OF ALL THOSE WHO FEAR CHANGE OR ANYTHING WHICH BORDERS ON THE UNKNOWN AND UNFAMILIAR. ANYONE WHO HAS HAD TO MIGRATE UNWILLINGLY WILL ESPECIALLY BE...

3.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant story with a unfinished ending.
I bought this book as an adult Farsi student because I thought trying to read it might help me learn to read Farsi better than I currently do. I am glad to see that the book has both English and Farsi versions of the story included. I bought this book as an adult Farsi student because I thought trying to read it might help me learn to read Farsi better than I currently do. I am glad to see that the book has both English and Farsi versions of the story included. I recognize that the book was written for children and not adult language students such as myself- for my purposes, however, it would have been helpful if the original Farsi and English were on facing pages rather than in separate sections.

The story has no clear ending, which is kind of interesting. I can imagine reading this story to children and then asking them at the end- and what do you think the little black fish does next?!

ANYONE WHO HAS HAD TO MIGRATE UNWILLINGLY WILL ESPECIALLY BE TOUCHED BY THIS BEAUTIFUL BOOK. THE THOUGHT TO PONDER ON IS THE GENERATION OF IRANIANS WHO INITIALLY CAME ACROSS THIS BOOK HAD TO ENDURE CALAMITIES AND ALL THE PAIN AND GLORY OF THE BRAVE LITTLE BLACK FISH. A GREAT EXAMPLE OF SERENDIPITY.

This was the first book I read in Farsi many years ago. I really enjoyed it at the age of 10 and I still enjoy reading it at 30.Behrangi gave children hope with his writings. His other stories are also delightful. I'm sure you and the kids are going to love it !

5.0 out of 5 stars Samad the amazing, May 4, 2003
This review is from: The Little Black Fish (Classics of Persian Literature) (Paperback)
I recently worked in a research institute, and to my great surprize, there also was Dr. Riza, a great intellectual, he was a neighbor of Behranghi, and He introduced me to his world through this book.
this book makes me in peace with my self, since i always have trouble limiting myself. I will always think of such books as inspiring, whether it's for children or adults. it is the best choice for setting up the right model to face life as a whole.

1.0 out of 5 stars Without a doubt, the worst children's book I have read, October 19, 2007
This review is from: The Little Black Fish (Classics of Persian Literature) (Paperback)
This book is about a little fish that, from the start to finish, acts like the worst foul-mouthed, spoiled, rude, aggressive, aimless teenager a parent can imagine. Right off the bat, it ungraciously and ungratefully tells its parents to buzz off as it acts on an impulse to take off to see the unknown world. Before it reaches to its unknown destination, it cusses out many bystander fish, guts out a bird with a knife, spreads empty-minded philosophy of living, and at the end, nothing! We don't know what happens to it. Instead of any form of relief or resolution to its miserable life, we are not even told what happens to it, the book just ends. I have read many Persian and Western stories, both as a child and as an adult when I read them to my own children. I have never seen a book as terrible as this. Why would anyone write a book like that?
