3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of information -little detail
The book gives lots of information on the different sections of San Francisco, but gives very little detail of hotels.

San Francisco is a great place to explore - it is compact, photogenic and well-served by public transportation. Seeing the famous sites is fine but the true San Francisco experience is found in strolling the streets and nosing around the stores of its eclectic neighborhoods. The Little Black Book of SF is a handy guide for just such an SF adventure. The book is small enough to fit into most pockets while the spiral bound construction inside a sturdy cover and thick pages insure that it is going to stand up to the rigors of your SF adventure. This book is not a thorough discussion of all things SF but rather a heads up of what to look for once you find yourself in Cow Hollow or Bernal Heights or any of the City's other districts. There are 10 handy little maps at the start of each district chapter followed by recommendations of what to see, where to shop, where to eat, drink and dance as well as what might be interesting to the kids. If you are a person that likes to travel light while in search of the genuine culture, this book is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Little Black Book, May 7, 2009
This review is from: The Little Black Book of San Francisco (Travel Guide) (Little Black Books) (Spiral-bound)
This is a fabulous asset for travel in San Francisco. The very smart design makes it
simple to take with you everywhere because it is small, and ring-bound. The map for each section folds out and you can use it to bookmark a section. Points of interest are divided into categories, and described in more detail in the section beyond the map. Transit routes are marked as well. The only improvement I can think of is tabs for each map, to make it quicker to find them by number. If you leave your heart in San Francisco, as I did, this book will help you when you go to find it, and lose it, again.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for exploring the city!, June 21, 2009

I just returned from a long weekend in San Francisco, and this tour guide (supplemented with some to-do-and-eat suggestions from local residents) was my bible! I planned many of my stops around the suggestions in this guide and was not disappointed. The portable nature of the book was also a bonus. I would recommend (as did a previous reviewer) tabs for each neighborhood. You may want to create your own with mini post-it notes for easy access. I highly recommend this book for those planning a trip to San Francisco.

Went on a SFO trip last fall. This was quite valuable, especially when exploring the city on foot or taking public transportation. Has great suggestions for what to do, where to eat, shop at every SFO neighborhood. Compact and easy to use.

We purchased this guidebook prior to a trip to San Francisco, where it came in very handy.

This is a great book for navigating San Francisco and finding places. The size was very convenient, but the maps could have been larger. Then again, it wouldn't be pocket size, would it?

But this guide provides only basic information about restaurants, shops and such. There are limited reviews and recommendations. We used it conjunction with Best Places to Kiss in Northern California, which provides more in-depth information and reviews.

We found this book very helpful during our San Francisco vacation. It was easy to carry around and broke the city down into neighborhoods, which was great. The foldout maps were the best, never felt lost!

4.0 out of 5 stars Glad I bought it., July 11, 2011

There are certainly bigger travel books for SF out there that give you great photos and probably more information, but this book has all the essentials for a great trip in a well organized package that won't weigh you down as you walk around a busy city all day. The little fold-out maps are great and the transit map had all the information we needed to get around the city by bus and train. I have larger travel books on SF, but this one was really all we needed to plan the trip and find our way around the city. I was planning on also buying a transit map, but the maps in this book had enough transit info that I really didn't need one. I would recommend this book to anyone visiting SF.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait to use it!, March 14, 2009
This review is from: The Little Black Book of San Francisco (Travel Guide) (Little Black Books) (Spiral-bound)
I am looking forward to using this on my trip to San Francisco. The fold-out maps have everything on them, including all types of public transportation. The information is not overwhelming like some guides. I love how each area of the city has its own section.

I bought this book as a last minute impulse item before going to San Francisco trip with friends. It was great, just enough info to point out the highlights when you are going to certain area, but not too much to get bogged down reading it. (I read it on the plane and it took me maybe 30 minutes to get through.)

The book itself is small & lightweight enough to carry with you in a purse or bag, plus it has maps of the city so it saves you having to carry additional maps. Very handy!
