Straight to point on places to go and things to do. Very portable, doesn't take much space in my bag. This was all i needed for my trip back in 2011. Glad i bought it!

It was adequate but didn't include anything new. The breakdown into districts was not always helpful. When used with still another more comprehensive travel guide, it was somewhat helpful.

Mom & I spent 7 days in SF doing the tourist thing every day . She carried this one in her purse cuz it was smaller . I carried a slightly bigger one that I prefered . I've since given it away so I can't tell you what it was , It had a lot of yellow on the cover & a picture of the bridge . I refered to that book almost hourly during my week in SF and followed many of the suggestions offered withing it ( 49 mile tour , Prisidio walkig tour , tour boat , etc ) . Every evening I spent a half hour to an hour in my yellow book planning the next day's excursion . For me the submarine tour & the Liberty ship tour were the highpoint of the week , but that's just me . Oh! & the one victorian house that offers Sunday only tours . The best piece of advise in the whole yellow book is to make as much use as possilbe of public transportation & they told in detail how to do it .

I purchased this book for the Kindle to have on my iPad for our trip to San Fransisco. The book is poorly organized, the maps are inferior to what you get for free at our hotel desk. They are unreadable on the iPad and Kindle.
Save your money.

This book has lots of great info about San Francisco. My only complaint is that unfortunately the maps provided in the kindle edition are horrible. I would skip this book and grab the Lonely Planet (kindle) guidebook.

Beware of any guidebook in which the author overuses words like 'hip', 'boutique', 'upscale', and 'trendy'. She provides some useful information on museums, scenic spots, etc., but I could have gotten that somewhere else. The majority of her restaurant picks are overpriced and precious eateries with cutesy names, she seems to favor bars based on the number of hip and successful people who hang there, and the stores she recommends tend heavily toward small, designer, and exclusive. The author seems to be appalled by the fact that 'lowlifes' are actually allowed to live in SanFran, ignores them in her book, and recommends cabs as a way to avoid them. She never mentions our harmless and beloved citizens who converse with themselves, says not a word about the six foot eight drag queens on Polk, and never took the time to see the old Jewish couples who dine at Lefty O'Douls. In short, she ignores most of the joys of our great city and reimagines it as a safe haven for WHITE people. If you're a shallow pretentious yuppie who would rather not deal with anybody who is obviously beneath you, buy the book. If you're a real human who loves to dive into life and come up grinning-in other words, if you're one of the rest of us-, don't go near this thing. It's useless bordering on patronizing and insulting.

There are certainly bigger travel books for SF out there that give you great photos and probably more information, but this book has all the essentials for a great trip in a well organized package that won't weigh you down as you walk around a busy city all day. The little fold-out maps are great and the transit map had all the information we needed to get around the city by bus and train. I have larger travel books on SF, but this one was really all we needed to plan the trip and find our way around the city. I was planning on also buying a transit map, but the maps in this book had enough transit info that I really didn't need one. I would recommend this book to anyone visiting SF.
