This little blackbird is a shining virtuoso!, June 18, 2002
This review is from: Little Blackbird (Audio CD)
This is some of the most beautiful violin playing I have ever heard. There is a tune for every mood on this album - The first track's joyful rambling melody instantly puts you at peace with the world and makes a wonderful beginning to an adventure through the diverse realms of Jewish folk music from Eastern Europe and Greece. A special highlight includes track #18 "Sarga Kutya." A beautifully performed and heartfelt song, inspiring the deepest longings of the soul. Even more rewarding is the discovery at the end of this particularly flawless performance, that it was recorded live, as are the majority of the tracks on this CD. This is the most polished live ensemble I've ever heard! If I were ever in the Seattle area, I would definitely have to look up the marvellous Miss Sandra Layman and her group of fine musicians which compiled this extraordinary collection of songs. If you are ever in the area, you ought to, too! You won't be sorry, but don't take my word for it - Buy this CD! For the price, this jam-packed disc is more than worth it!
