5.0 out of 5 stars Great Collection of Quotations, November 24, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Little Book of Bathroom Meditations: Spiritual Wisdom Every Day (Paperback)
I've flipped through many books of quotations. Some are decent; some are weak. Some bug me because the "author" inserts too much commentary with the quotations.

This book is one of the best collections of quotations I've found. It is well balanced between contemporary & historical quotes and doesn't favor one political viewpoint or another. The quotes are nicely arranged into chapters based on topics, which makes it simple to flip to the chapter that represents the them that suits your mood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small book of some very interesting sayings, May 14, 2010
This review is from: The Little Book of Bathroom Meditations: Spiritual Wisdom Every Day (Paperback)
There is a certain absurdity about the way this book is presented and marketed. And this despite its very interesting content. It is a small collection of aphorisms from well- known writers divided into three sections, one on Heart, one on Body, one on Mind. The topics are for the Heart section:Wisdom and Prayer, Love and Friendship, Laughter and Happiness, The Soul and Visions of the Infinite, Hope and Faith. For the Body Section: Time and Aging, Digestion and health, Work and Leisure, Death and Nature, Sex and Vice .For the Mind Section: Adversity and Success, Solitude and Society, Patience and Humility, Weakness and Morality, Art and Creativity.
In other words the chapters are around essential and important subjects. The aphorisms are very often very good.
So I imagine some readers will want to read the book even if they do not have to sit on the toilet to do it.
In any case here's a sample of the aphorisms:

" To love another person is to see the face of God" Victor Hugo

" In giving advice, seek to help, not to please, your friend." Solon

"Laughter is the shortest distance between two people" Victor Borge

"I'm a great believer in Luck. I find the harder I work the more I have of it." Thomas Jefferson

"Every strike brings me closer to the next home run" Babe Ruth

"The essence of all Art is to have pleasure in giving pleasure." Mikhael Baryshnikov

"If your daily life seems poor, do not blame it; blame yourself that you are not poet enough to call forth its riches; for the Creator there is no poverty." Rainer Marie Rilke

" A man is what he thinks about all day long" Ralph Waldo Emerson

5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Little Gift., November 12, 2003
This review is from: The Little Book of Bathroom Meditations: Spiritual Wisdom Every Day (Paperback)
Bored and embarrassed to be taking ho-hum wine or flowers yet again to your hostess or relatives? This quirky little gem is small enough for anyone's guest bathroom. An excellent conversation starter. A nice little gift at a nice little price. I'm grateful my guest bought it for me and I'm putting several other people on my Christmas gift list to receive this book. I wish there were more small gifts this reasonable and creative.
