Like the Little Book of Flyfishing, The Little Book of Birding is a fine complement to a very small coffee table. While there are few birdwatching tips--in fact, sparse text at all--the color photos are often memorable (to birders, at least) and the overall tone is as amiable as can be. Inside, you'll find funny-looking screech owls, a pair of bright cardinals in a snowstorm, a catbird taking a bath--not to mention the birdwatchers, bundled up in winter, studying their field guides, straining upward to catch a glimpse of tree-top warblers.

There is very little text in this book--some bird-watching tips and techniques are all that the textual accompaniment amounts to--but the 100 color photographs by the author make this book a treasure.
