Great book!,

This review is from: The Little Book of Christmas Joys: 432 Things to Do for Yourself and Others that Just Might Make this the Best Christmas Ever (Paperback)
This book has a wide variety of suggestions, from practical, to giving to putting in that extra effort. No one will use all the suggestions, but there's plenty of good ones for anyone. (My favorite is dancing with your partner with just the Christmas lights on to White Christmas). I review this book at the beginning of every season & some have become things integrated into our traditions. This year I'm buying extra's to give as gifts.

For the past several years I have pulled this book out at Thanksgiving to remind myself of specials "niceties" to include during the holiday season. Many of the author's suggestions have become standard fare in our home---like rolling pine cones in peanut butter, sprinkling with bird seed which adheres to the peanut butter, and hanging them from trees as a nice treat for our feathered friends. You'll find hundreds of short suggestions for making your holiday bright and cheery--everything from baking Christmas cookies while a Johnny Mathis CD plays in the background to stirring your hot chocolate with a candy cane. My favorite is: Throughout the holiday season, give your family the gift of a sweet disposition. My only disappointment is that the author never did a follow-up volume with even more ideas.

something for everyone, written with cheer,
This review is from: The Little Book of Christmas Joys: 432 Things to Do for Yourself and Others that Just Might Make this the Best Christmas Ever (Paperback)
I truly enjoyed this little gem of a book. I plan on reading it a couple of more times throughout the holiday season. "The Little Book of Christmas Joys: 432 things to do for yourself and others that just might make this the best Christmas ever" is well worth repeated readings. It offers practical and helpful advice, reminders to be as good to yourself as you are to others, a few delicious-sounding recipes, and a prevailing spirit of good cheer. You are bound to find more than one holiday tip that really hits home. The real reason for the season is present from beginning to end, and while there are many suggestions regarding gift-giving, commercialism is given a back seat to showing real care and consideration for others. I will share just a few of my favorite "things" from this book--there are really too many to mention! #5--"Never select a Christmas tree after dark"--this makes me laugh not only because it's so true, but because it applies to so many situations in life. #61--"Enjoy a couple of meals illuminated only by the Christmas tree"--make it take-out food and just wind down and savor the moment. #134--"Enjoy Christmas music in your home, office, and car to keep you in the holiday spirit"--if you're alone, sing along loudly, badly, and gladly! #226--"Never give a gift to someone else's child that you wouldn't want your own child to receive"--ditto for grownups. #319--"This Christmas, give yourself the gift of living in peace with those things you cannot change"--Repeat.
