About the Author

THEODOR SEUSS GEISEL—aka Dr. Seuss—is one of the most beloved children’s book authors of all time. From The Cat in the Hat to Oh, the Places You’ll Go!, his iconic characters, stories, and art style have been a lasting influence on generations of children and adults. The books he wrote and illustrated under the name Dr. Seuss (and others that he wrote but did not illustrate, including some under the pseudonyms Theo. LeSieg and Rosetta Stone) have been translated into thirty languages. Hundreds of millions of copies have found their way into homes and hearts around the world. Dr. Seuss’s long list of awards includes Caldecott Honors for McElligot’s Pool, If I Ran the Zoo, and Bartholomew and the Oobleck, the Pulitzer Prize, and eight honorary doctorates. Works based on his original stories have won three Oscars, three Emmys, three Grammys, and a Peabody. Dr. Seuss's never-before-seen picture book What Pet Should I Get? will be published on July 28, 2015. The rediscovered book captures a classic childhood moment—the selection of a pet—and uses it to illustrate a life-lesson: that it is hard to make up your mind, but that sometimes you just have to do it!

More About the Author

"A person's a person, no matter how small," Theodor Seuss Geisel, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss, would say. "Children want the same things we want. To laugh, to be challenged, to be entertained and delighted."

Brilliant, playful, and always respectful of children, Dr. Seuss charmed his way into the consciousness of four generations of youngsters and parents. In the process, he helped millions of kids learn to read.

Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts, on March 2, 1904. After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1925, he went to Oxford University, intending to acquire a doctorate in literature. At Oxford, Geisel met Helen Palmer, whom he wed in 1927. Upon his return to America later that year, Geisel published cartoons and humorous articles for Judge, the leading humor magazine in America at that time. His cartoons also appeared in major magazines such as Life, Vanity Fair, and Liberty. Geisel gained national exposure when he won an advertising contract for an insecticide called Flit. He coined the phrase, "Quick, Henry, the Flit!" which became a popular expression.

Geisel published his first children's book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, in 1937, after 27 publishers rejected it.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1984, an Academy Award, three Emmy Awards, three Grammy Awards, and three Caldecott Honors, Geisel wrote and illustrated 44 books. While Theodor Geisel died on September 24, 1991, Dr. Seuss lives on, inspiring generations of children of all ages to explore the joys of reading.

I loved Dr. Seuss as a child and was thrilled to find this gift set for my daughter for Christmas. After reading the books with her, I noticed that parts of the stories that I remembered as a child were absent. Sure enough, I checked the inside front cover, and they're abridged!--Not that it really matters to my 10 month old who is more interested in turning the board book pages and looking at the illustrations, but it does to me. I was pretty disappointed because I felt a little cheated, since the description doesn't warn you that they are abridged.

This is a great set of Dr. Seuss board books. The size is great large enough to read and small enough for our 11 month old to easily handle on his own. Good high quality board stock is used with a nice and glossy finish and a good thickness. The packaging is also excellent, it comes in a very nice presentation box making it an excellent choice as a gift. As far as value, you can't beat it!!! You get four book for about the price of two. I will keep this set in mind for future gift giving!

This item was given to our one year old nephew for his birthday. He absolutely loves books, and this was a perfect gift for him. Both he and his mother enjoyed it a lot!

I actually like that these are abridged versions since a child who is reading board books won't have the attention span to read the full version, plus we get to rediscover the full version once my daughter is old enough to no rip the pages out. My issue is that I only like two of the four books included. I enjoy reading "Oh, the Thinks You Can Think!" and "The Shape of Me and Other Stuff" with my little girl, but "Hop on Pop" and "Ten Apples Up On Top!" are awkward and mundane.

If you are thinking you're buying a set of dr seuss books at a great price, think again. These are not the full versions of the books but are cut down. No where on description does it mention that though apparently that is standard practice for "board books". Had I known that, I would not have bought this. Should have read the reviews as other people mention this but since these were dr suess, never even thought to read a review. Will be donating these to the library and buying the real versions separately.

I was a little upset to get these and figure out they weren't the original wording of the full sized books. I guess I should have read the description better. My bad. I went ahead and gave them to he intended recipient and her mother was really really pleased with the set. Long story short: great gift, as long as you aren't an unabridged purist (which I kinda am).

My little boy loves this board book set. The little holder has a handle and he totes them around everywhere we go.

Cute, smart, and kid-sized. Just right for my niece:) The books included in this selection are less common Seuss titles for the little (and big) Seuss fans in your life.
