5.0 out of 5 stars Good Memories
This is a wonderful book! I can remember not being able to read the text when I was younger to go on to learn out to read it as I got older. I loved the scratch and sniff parts of the book. However in the older book the stickers were in the shape of the object to be smelled. Now there are just round stickers. The scents still smell pretty much the same though.

"If ain`t broke, don`t fix it."

I love this book, and I ordered the Jan. 2004 edition in order to share this wonderful memory with other little readers. The original illustrations are still intact as far as I know, but what happened to the chocolate mint cookie?!...And what happened to those great stickers that I used to fawn over? They`ve all been exchanged for plain round and glossy stickers glued on to the illustrations, as if the only reason for them was to give off the scent! Even the sticker in the spoon for the jam was sacrificed! I used to be amazed by them, because they were duplicates of the illustrations in scratch n` sniff form...it was like I really did have my very own sample of everything Little Bunny tried. The current ones look like a cost-cutting maneuver, and they stick out like a sore thumb!

As long as Golden Books is going to reprint a book that is an old favorite, why did they have to sacrifice these details?!

By the way, the illustrations of this book and text are still great; anyone who didn`t catch the original version are not going to be sorry. People who buy this out of nostalgia, however, will notice!

Chocolate chip cookie, my foot! *grumble, grumble*

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware!, August 18, 2007
The integrity of this book is seriously compromised by the new, non-descript, circular stickers. They actually obscure the illustrations that they cover. It makes me sad that what used to be a childhood favorite is now seems so cheaply made. Also, the scents are faint. If you're buying the book for the story and illustrations it is still fun. But if the scratch-n-sniff aspect is an important component(why wouldn't it be?), you'll probably be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars What Happened to the Stickers?!, October 22, 2005

I purchased this book for my 2 year old as I had it as a child and absolutely loved it! While the story is really cute, and my daughter enjoys it very much, I have to say I'm dissappointed in the scratch-n-sniff stickers in this edition. I agree with the reviewer who said the shape of the stickers was a part of the charm of this book, and now they are cheap round circles instead of shaped like the specific items. Additionally, the smells aren't very strong; some of them don't even smell like anything. If it weren't for that, I'd give it 5 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute story...weak scents, September 12, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Bought this book in December 2004 and 10 months later NONE of the scent stickers smell anymore. Very disappointing! We didn't overscratch either as can sometimes be the problem. The scents simply wore off. Interesting nobody else here has mentioned the problem though. Wonder if it is just our book???? Wish I could get new stickers!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Why did they change things??, September 6, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I remembered this book from when I was a child. I remember the scratch n sniff stickers being the shape of the scents. Now to make things cheaper (as all the books and toys do) they replaced the shaped stickers with a 'spot' scratch and sniff sticker. Not nearly as scented as the original.

and now the pine cone doesn't "smell like Christmas" it "smells like winter"? and the 'chocolate mint' cookies are now chocolate chip.

Still a cute book and story, my 3 yr old daughter loves....but a shame they changed anything in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Favorite!, June 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Bunny Follows His Nose (Golden Scratch & Sniff Books) (Hardcover)
In my opinion, this book is best appreciated by children who are about three years of age and older. The text is just long enough to challenge the attention span while still maintaining the interest of three-year-olds. Children enjoy smelling the same things that Little Bunny smells as he learns to explore his environment by "following his nose": a rose in the field, the strawberry jam Mouse's mother is making, pine needles in the forest, a peach in the orchard, a dill pickle made by Mother Raccoon. Children are reassured by the fact that, although Little Bunny is exploring far and wide, he encounters a friend in each setting. Little Bunny's nose eventually leads him back to his own house where his mother has been baking chocolate mint cookies. A special bed-time treat in our house is to read this book and enjoy "four chocolate mint (Girl Scout) cookies" just like Little Bunny.

This book was one of my favorites as a child. My sister and I read it so often that we wore away several of the scratch-and-sniff stickers. Remembering my fondness for this book, I purchased it for my own children. I am pleased to say that this is now one of my children's favorite books, too. I recommend it highly.

2.0 out of 5 stars Scents disappear very quickly, April 6, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this book for my 2yr old daughter because I remembered how much I enjoyed books with scents when I was little. She did enjoy the book; however, it quickly lost almost all of the scents over just a couple of months. My daughter is still 2, and just recently started pulling this book out again to read, but we are both disappointed that most of the scents are completely gone now. This book was only gently used, no rough scratching of stickers or anything like that. Only the pine and chocolate chip cookie scents are still there. After smelling each one, she keeps saying "It's not working. We have to get a new one." I'm looking around for other books now that will hopefully having lasting scents.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet little book that makes a great gift, May 28, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
When my wife and I were debating about what book to give to a friend of ours who just had their first baby, we went back and forth for a bit. Then, my wife mentioned "Little Bunny Follows His Nose" and the decision was easy. We logged in to Amazon and ordered the book right away.

LBFHN is one of the best "interactive" books out there. It has old fashioned "scratch n' sniff" panels that let your child experience the smell of fresh peaches, sharp pickles, and even chocolate chip cookies! It's a sweet, simple story of a mother bunny who turns her little bunny out into the wide world to "follow his nose," and describes the friends, sights and smells he sees along the way.

Your child will love scratching the little panels and experiencing the smells, and you'll enjoy watching them "get into" the book. I know that, when we gave the book to our friend, her 1-year-old did!

Four stars--I took one off because the publishers, in their infinite wisdom, decided to change the wording of the book to be more "PC" than in the version my wife grew up with. Thus, pine needles smell like "winter" instead of "Christmas" and little bunny gets chocolate chip cookies instead of chocolate mint cookies at the end, though I'm not sure why they made that change...

5.0 out of 5 stars Kid tested, top notch!, August 1, 2008

My daughter loves to smell everything like flowers, food, candles, soap - you name it. When I saw this book was a cute bunny story combined with 6 scratch and sniff stickers, I was sold. Unlike other reviewers I was never lucky enough to know the original book, so I can't say how much it's gone down hill since I was a child. All I can say is that for right now, not 30 years ago, this is one fantastic story.

The scents are all very strong, and they go great with the tale of a bunny spending the day outside "following his nose". My daughter can't get enough of this book. The first time I read it to her I think it blew her mind. She looked at me, smiled and said, "Daddy, why does this book smell good like food?" She made me read it back to back, then she held on to it smelling the pages as I read her other books. I've read it to her every night since.

The only thing that bothers me is that the whole "scratch-and-sniff" sticker and book concept seems so 80s now. It is hard to find any decent books or stickers since this "fad" is now a thing of the past. That is too bad, because this is something most adults still remember and cherish from their childhood.

UPDATE: almost a year later and I wish I could remove a star or two. The scents are all but gone. You can probably find 15-20 year old stickers that still have faint smells, but after only a year these are almost 100% scent-less. What a disappointment.
