I bought this book on a whim from Barnes and Noble and was not disappointed. First of all, I love vintage prints, products, and artwork especially for the holidays. This is a cute Halloween book full of old-fashion pictures, easy recipes, famous scary stories and poems, and blurbs about superstitions. For children it even has a hand full of magic tricks (that really work) and 'spells' (for "those aspiring wizards and witches"). Whether you are a vintage aficionado or a child who loves Halloween, this book is a great keepsake.

I have never written a review before today - but I bought this book 3 days ago and I am just enchanted with it :) At first I wandered through it and then I went from beginning to end... It has wonderful excerpts from books as well as short stories to tell. The vintage artwork is just beautiful throughout the book and just adds to the over all "found treasure" feel. There are wonderful poems (my favorite is now The Transylvania Dream), "spells"(light hearted) and magic tricks for kids. Buy this book if you love all things Halloween - if your looking for goth type stuff this is not for you - this has all the charm of yesterday brought to today to enjoy. I love this book!!! 5 stars is not enough :-)

This is a fun book to read during the Halloween season. Made of snips and snails of Halloween lore and spooky stories, this book is ideal for dipping into for a quick read anytime. Fun, retro illustrations throughout add an element of seasonal entertainment. My only criticism of the book is that while it includes classic Halloween stories like the Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Frankenstein, they are seriously shortened forms of the originals (the Frankenstein excerpt is only one page long!), and nowhere does it mention that the passages are lifted from a longer work. This means the unsuspecting reader misses out on the prompt to seek out the work in its entirety. In my opinion, the author/editor should have added an "excerpted from.." note to each truncated tale.
Finally, while it is a fun, chunky size, the binding seems to have been poorly done - a sizable portion of pages in my copy started to fall out during the first reading.
That said, it was a fun read, and a nice addition to my Halloween-themed book collection.

Great book to celebrate Halloween with. Wonderful for kids. The whole series is great, as well. It's got everything you want; stories, poems, recipes, traditions.

Love this little spooky retro art book. The pictures are reminiscent of childhood if you are a baby boomer! They are rich and have depth, pulling you into the past with just a glance! Love it and would highly recommend it to anyone intersted in "good things" from the past.

I own The Big Small Book for Moms and was expecting the same kind of levity in reading. Needless to say, I will not be reading it to my children anytime soon. I did ,however, enjoy reading this book at Halloween! Unexlpained phenomena, crafts, and recipes all wrapped up in one book!

If you love antique or vintage things this book is great. The stories and pictures in the book are so fun to look at. It also looks great out for Halloween time on the table. Everyone likes to look at it. Would recommend.

This book is fantastic!!! I can not go on enough about this book. Wonderful short stories, wonderful poems, art, just a knock out halloween book. You have to get this. And the thing that makes it even more special is it has a built in red ribbon as a book marker which gives it an old feel to it. I love this book. Totally wonderful. Get it. Now.
