Combine the Grinch with Ebenezer Scrooge and the result lives next door to Beth Lannigen. The widow and her son carefully observe their seasonal rituals in an effort to keep the memory of the child's father alive and to give structure so Beth can survive her devastating loss. Her husband's been gone five years, and the fact that his memory has begun to fade worries Beth. This season she needs a project to get her through the holidays. Recognizing the pain in Logan Ward's eyes as kindred grief, Beth decides to make Logan smile for the holidays.
The sound of a child's laughter disturbs Logan's solitude. When he tries to return the seven-year-old to his mother, one thing leads to another, and he finds himself with unwanted attention. Sure, Beth's a wonderful cook, and he enjoys the casseroles she insists that he try, but Logan's carefully guarded grief is too painful to risk letting anyone close to his heart. Despite his prostrations, however, Logan finds himself drawn into the community, adopted by a dog, and eating meals with Beth and her son. Logan better be careful or he's going to regain his reputation as hero rather than a grump.
Author Sylvie Kurtz pens a delightful holiday romance in A LITTLE CHRISTMAS MAGIC. As these two grief stricken characters find the path to healing, readers best keep a tissue handy. Tragedy leaves both main characters wounded and fearful of risking love again. This warm tale will heat up cold winter nights, with not only believable and sympathetic main characters, but also a wonderful secondary cast. Between the son and the mutt, readers will find A LITTLE CHRISTMAS MAGIC irresistible. Very highly recommended.

...I recommend you keep a good old fashioned hanky handy and enjoy the story of two people trying to resolve their emotional scars.
...Widow or not.
Beth Lannigen and Logan Ward need each other - they just take a while to realize it. The story bringing about their falling in love, including Jamie and Max [the mut- not like the picture]is most enjoyable, you can't put it down and that says a lot for an author.

After all I am going to say about this book, you will find it hard to believe that I did enjoy this book. However, I did enjoy it. I like to read these easy to read romance books. They refresh my belief in love and are always uplifting. I like books that end happy.
However, having said that, this book has a lot of turmoil. Her parents are dead and she's greiving for a dead husband. Her best friend has had two fiancees die. The man who moves in next door is grieving for his dead daughter and worries about other children getting hurt to an extreme degree. I just felt that there was just too much turmoil and angst.
However, I liked the spunky Beth and enjoyed her fairly upbeat view of life. I think she finally does have a little bit of a breakdown that is very realistic. Logan, the main man, is a nice neighbor. If he didn't have the attitude he'd be the kind of man I'd lust after.
That is the one thing that I think saves this book- that despite both of their problems and his attitude they come together to find love and healing. Thus, it's a four instead of something lower.
Enjoy.

A sweet story of two wounded souls who find healing and love with each other at Christmas, though a little heavy on the angst.

At one point it seemed like if anything could go wrong it would. Both fighting to hold one to grief for no good reason. The people in the town automatically assuming she wants to save the new guy. I think my favorite character is the dog and her son. I was just glad the two finally got a clue. Would i read it again? The answer is no but it wasn't a bad story, just not for me.
