About the Author

Mercer Mayer – writer and illustrator for Little Critter First Readers, as well as Little Critter Spectrum began writing and illustrating children’s books in 1966 and since that time, he has published over 300 titles. Open almost any of the award-winning author/illustrator’s books, and out may pop dragons, cuddly monsters, wonderful creatures, and endearing critters. “Most of my books are about things that happened to me when I was a little kid,” says Mercer. “Now that I’m a big kid, I write about things that happen now, especially with my own children. They always help remind me of what it was like.” Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Mercer Mayer spent his childhood hunting lizards and snakes in the swamps near his home. During his teenage years, he attended the Honolulu Academy of Arts. He later received additional training at the Art Students League in New York City. Upon completion of his studies, he set out with pen and ink to write and illustrate a collection of children’s book, reflecting many of the adventures he experienced as a child.

More About the Author

Mercer Mayer has been writing and illustrating children's books for over 35 years. He began the popular Little Critter series nearly 30 years ago and titled the first book Just for You. His wife, Gina, has been co-writing the series since the early 1990s. The books in this series address the major issues of growing up through humorous storytelling.

The only downside to this book is that it is short, about 16 pages of story. And we definitely want more :) It is a wonderful, simple tale about the Christmas tree Little Critter and Sister will have for Christmas. Everyone comes up with ideas how to decorate the tree so that it can look festive. Their ideas are all home-made decorations which I think is wonderful. It can inspire parents to do some crafts from scratch without pre-made items. There are gingerbread men, popcorn string garlands, paper snowflakes, bows to be made :) Finally a book that takes commercialism away from Christmas.

Mercer Mayer, as always, never fails to keep a child's, nor an adult - these are the best books! My children loved these books, now my grand-daughter loves these books - these are great for holding a child's attention and teaching them "good lessons."
