ADORABLE book!,

This is a cute and fun book. I don't usually choose Eric Carle books, but this is one of the best books I've read to my almost-2 year old this year. Even my 5 year old likes it. Fun, imaginative, and we really like the little face on Little Cloud in the beginning of the story. This small/medium board book size is a plus, too, easy for little hands.

Not my Favorite Eric Carle book,
By
This review is from: Little Cloud (Hardcover)
I normally love the Eric Carle books. My son usually loves them as well. This book is not my favorite, nor is it my son's favorite. I don't feel this is a good representation of his work. The pictures are very cute and the idea is very imaginative. However, the story itself is very clunky and is a bit much for a toddler to sit through. We just look at the pictures and don't try to really read the words.

A great book for the imagination. It inspired us to go outside and see what shapes our "Little Clouds" were becoming.

Little Cloud,

Little Cloud is one of Carle's more recent books. Carle started illustrating and writing books in the late 1960s. Of the Carle books I've read there are only two that I don't enjoy: The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Very Greedy Snake as both are focused so heavily on gluttony.Little Cloud instead teaches through example the importance of being an individual and being a contributing member of a group.
Until the end, each page has a different shape that Little Cloud has created on his own. There's an airplane, a hat, and a variety of other shapes that children will easily recognize. In the end, his hat joins up with the other clouds who have together formed a clown.

Great Color and Contrast,

I say great color because the book is only really blue and white but it's a great book for all of that. Lots of great pictures with contrast to catch little one's attention. Definitely more for bigger little ones who are starting to understand such concepts as rabbits and airplanes.

Wonderful for the imagination!,

Right after reading this book just once, my daughter was outside telling me all the different things the clouds looked like! This book really stimulates the imagination. The simple pictures and verse make it a great bed-time book for the little ones. It has quickly become one of my daughter's "must-have" going to bed books.

I don't get to read these books as they are a gift to my granddaughter! She must be enjoying them. My daughter didn't let me know.

It took a reading or two for my daughter to enjoy this book. Not sure she understood the lack of colors (most pages are blue and white like the cover) She was 10 mos when I started reading it to her. But there were animal names she recognized so it caught her attention and now she loves the book. I like to think it helps her use her imagination.

We've been reading this to our 28 month old for over a year now. She still enjoys it. Admittedly, I was a little disappointed when I first read it as it didn't seem to have the same magic as the other Carle books.
Evidently, my daughter disagrees! What is so great about the book is that it can appeal on many levels. At first, she began to notice and point out clouds to us. Now she focuses on the imaginative aspect of the book - she sees shapes in clouds, pieces of cheese, etc. We have several Eric Carle books, and it seems to be a perennial favorite. |
