5.0 out of 5 stars OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF BABES
This is a thoroughly adorable recording by some very young and very talented artists. It is an inspiration to us all, old and young alike, who try also to make music. All the more noteworthy is how they have grown into mature and accomplished musicians in a few short years by the time of their subsequent release titled "Nickel Creek"

3.0 out of 5 stars Review Of Little Cowpoke
I really like Nickel Creek, but I was disappointed by this CD. I guess I am used to their newer music, so it was a shock to hear "Little Cowpoke". They put this CD together awhile ago, so most of the band was really young. This would be a great CD to get for a child because it sounds so young. ...but not a necessity for your Nickel Creek collection. It's "cute" to hear Nickel Creek in their early days, and my daughter (4 yrs old) really enjoys this CD. But I don't think I'll be throwing this one in when I need a Nickel Creek fix.

5.0 out of 5 stars still like it after the 1000th listen!, September 14, 2004
This review is from: Little Cowpoke (Audio CD)
My 2 year old son has been addicted to this CD for a year or more and our whole family still actually likes it. The musicianship is great and a good glimpse of Nickel Creek's bright future. Yes, their music today is very different than it was back then, but they're all adults now-- I highly recommend any of their CDs. And by the way, they are not from Austin, but Vista, California. :)

This is a FABULOUS CD! I heard a sample of it and knew that I had to have it for my 2 yr old as well as sending to my 3 yr old nephew. They love it and can't get enough of it. The title is very appropriate too. I understand that a few people bought this and were disappointed because it wasn't the "Nickel Creek" of today. Um, the title is "Little Cowpoke"....go figure. I guess I actually read a little about my cd's before I buy them. The harmonies are fantastic and the song choices bring back the cowboys of the 50's and 60's. I couldn't have been happier about this choice. They've done a wonderful job!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD for Little Kids, June 7, 2007
This review is from: Little Cowpoke (Audio CD)
It is not often that one can hear their favorite band singing as little kids. That is exactly what you get on this CD. Nickel Creek, known for it's folksy, soft melodies made this CD when they were all between 10 and 14. Now, if you are not into little kids singing high notes, then maybe this CD isn't for you. My niece and nephew love it. They even want to be cowboys someday too! If you love Nickel Creek, its worth it to get this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nickel Creek were already brilliant musicians as pre-teens, February 14, 2007
This review is from: Little Cowpoke (Audio CD)
This CD is for the Nickel Creek fan who

A)already has all the other cds, and
B) Enjoys the "traditional Country/Western roots" that their music evolved from...or
C)is a parent or grandparent wanting some 'safe' and fun music to share with kids with NO element of today's 'trashy' side....

They are doing classic "gene Autry' style cowboy tunes from an era long since past....the band members are all between 10 and 12 years old on this album.(except a dad who helps out) Their performance is consistently flashy and their playing and singing could only be called 'virtuoso'.....Keep in mind, however that this is Nickel Creek BEFORE they were heavily influenced by everyone from Radiohead to the Beatles.......this is music for KIDS to enjoy, but it is neither modern/current, nor does it bear resemblance to the latest bluegrass/modern rock hybrid that we SOOOOOO love them for.

If you are a Nickel Creek Freak ...like me ...and have everything they have ever produced and written, as well as their solo stuff, then this is great to add to your collection. It is delightful to play and your kids will love it.
It is great to hear young talent in the making and they don't come much more talented than Chris Thile, Sara & Sean Watkins.

My 6 year old nephew loved this cd, but I have another 5 year old nephew that didn't like the "I want to be a cowboy's sweetheart" and gave his away!!!
The whole cd will not make mom go crazy listening to it over and over.
Well, maybe the 100th time will make her crazy, but the rest of the time she will sing along!

I just received the Little Cowpoke CD, and have listened to it a few times in my car~~~ HOW ADORABLE to hear Chris,Sara, and Sean(and Scott, Chris's Dad) from way back when..... to hear them play instruments that young and harmonize beautifully all these years, made me feel good. I have always loved Nickel Creek, and I never realized that Chris made 2 instrumental CD's right after this one.... AMAZING! I was also happy to be able to meet Chris this year at Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival 2011, and I brought along his 2 CD covers for him to sign, I was in heaven, and Chris & Michael played an awesome gig, very tight.... THANK YOU CHRIS! I miss Nickel Creek but I know everyone needs to move on and do different things, but if there IS a Nickel Creek reunion one day..... YEE~HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREAT CD, for young and old(er)!
