Mercer Mayer has been writing and illustrating books for children for more than forty years. His most recognized character, the lovable and charismatic Little Critter^®, was born in 1975 in the book Just for You. Mercer's Little Critter has since starred in more than two hundred books, which have sold over one hundred and fifty million copies. Born in Arkansas, Mercer now lives in New England with his family.

Mercer Mayer has been writing and illustrating children's books for over 35 years. He began the popular Little Critter series nearly 30 years ago and titled the first book Just for You. His wife, Gina, has been co-writing the series since the early 1990s. The books in this series address the major issues of growing up through humorous storytelling.

My 5 year-old son loves the Little Critter books, and we were thrilled to find this new series for emerging readers! The stories are interesting for him, and the vocabulary is appropriate for a child who is beginning independent reading. We have purchased all the books in this series and will continue to do so!

My 5 year old LOVES the Little Critter books and we have purchased all of the available titles from our local chain bookstore. When I saw "Going To The Firehouse" at amazon.com I was thrilled. He loves this book and the easy words are helpful to him as he learns to read.
