This review is from: Little Critter: Just a Snowy Day (Hardcover)
My kids have always loved interactive storybooks, the kind with touch-and-feel pages, pull-tabs, etc. We also collect the LITTLE CRITTER storybooks, and JUST A SNOWY DAY is a perfect addition to our collection!
Filled with amazing touch-and-feel pages that include smooth new rubber boots, a fuzzy pompon on a winter hat, a furry lining of a winter coat, and a nice, snuggly blanket, there's plenty to choose from. What makes this book extra special are the additional interactive pages--a scratch-and-sniff mug of hot cocoa, a shower curtain to open, a sled to pull, and a wheel to make the snow fall outside. This is a wonderful book for toddlers, and for beginning readers such as my daughter. It's a book all LITTLE CRITTER fans will enjoy and will be happy that this book has been put back into print. A real winner for everyone involved! Reviewed by: Jennifer Wardrip, aka "The Genius"

This review is from: Little Critter: Just a Snowy Day (Hardcover)
This is a wonderful book for young children. I bought it for my daughter years ago, but our copy is torn and tattered. The only warning I give with this book is that it is slightly delicate for children who aren't easy on books, but well worth it. The book includes a scratch and sniff cup of hot cocoa, a shower door that you pull open, shiny boots to feel, a fuzzy blanket, doors to open, and my personal favorite - a wheel that turns to produce falling snow. The expressions on all the Little Critter faces are so cute too. It is one of our absolute favorites and I can't recommend it highly enough. I'm buying a copy for each of my children to pass on to THEIR children someday.

Fun to read,

An enjoyable adventure in the snow with lots of fun pop ups and moveable items. My only concern is how easily a child can break some of the pop ups, a little guideance from an adult the first few times should eliminate this issue.

Mercer Meyer's charming and completely non-scary monster proudly dresses himself in bright new boots, a warm lined coat, and a winter hat with sprightly pompon, then dashes outside to enjoy sledding and skating.
Smooth boots, furry lining, and fuzzy pompon are tactile materials set into the sturdy pages of this touch-and-feel book, so that young readers can experience the different textures. Additional interactive treats await the reader once the eager monster gets outside. Icicles are shiny foil. The sled has a cord for pulling it across the page on a precut track. Skating is a particular challenge for Little Critter, as readers manipulate a tab to make him slip, wobble, and--Whoops!--fall down. Back inside after a full day of play, Little Critter enjoys a cup of cocoa, complete with a scratch-and-sniff patch to share the chocolaty smell. After the baby monster is tucked into his little bed, readers can turn a wheel at the top of the page to make snow fall outside the bedroom window. And as Little Critter falls asleep, peeking under his blanket reveals one last, cozy surprise. Unmentioned in the text, a big-eyed, big-nosed cat roams through the pages in pursuit of an impertinent mouse, who remains cheerfully unafraid of his four-footed pursuer. The sensory and movable elements of the book make adult supervision advisable. Tabs are placed at the page edges, where they won't interfere with the artwork. Babies and toddlers are likely to overlook the tabs and instead grab for the moving parts--making it likely that the kitty on page 6 will part company with the page before he can pounce on the mouse peeking from its hole. An adult companion can point out how the tab works, helping the young child pick up the concept of cause and effect. Particularly inviting is the bathtub scene as Little Critter prepares for bed. Clever engineering allows the shower curtain to fold back on itself along a precut track in the page, revealing Little Critter covered with bubbles--and accompanied by the adventurous mouse. This is a page where eager preschoolers may well try to pull back the curtain on their own, ignoring the tab and ripping the curtain despite its sturdy construction. "Just a Snowy Day" is a book young children will want to experience again and again. At first they'll be fascinated by its interactive parts, but they'll soon fall in love with its winsome hero. So what if the tabs get torn and the cocoa gets scratched dry? This isn't a book to save for your grandchildren, it's one to enjoy here and now. Let your child love it to pieces!

I agree with the glowing reviews already posted. I've never reviewed a book but my daughter and I have so much fun reading this one I just had to express my gratitude for this amazing interactive book! I have never seen such variety in pop-up/flap books. There are so many opportunites for language stimulation. You will not regret getting this book!

My Son Loves This Book,
This review is from: Little Critter: Just a Snowy Day (Hardcover)
When I was a child, I loved the Little Critter series. They have simple but touching stories, the illustrations are beautiful, and there is always something fun to spot in them. Now I have an 11 month old son, and he really loves it when we read this book. After reading it only a handful of times, he already knows where the book does special things (like opening the front door, feeling the furry lining of a coat, and pulling back the shower curtain). This book is very engaging and the illustrations are wonderful, as with any Mercer Mayer book. And as with any book that does something special (lift-flap, pull-tab, pop-up, etc), this is not a book to just hand over to a small child, otherwise it will be destroyed. This is a book to enjoy with your child and a way to teach how to handle these kinds of books, or any book for that matter, properly. I know when my son is 4+, he will be able to read this book with as much enjoyment as he does today. "Just a Snow Day" introduces kids to all the fun things that come along with winter in an interactive way, which kids will love.
