Mercer Mayer has been writing and illustrating books for children for more than forty years. His most recognized character, the lovable and charismatic Little Critter®, was born in 1975 in the book Just for You. Mercer's Little Critter has since starred in more than two hundred books, which have sold over one hundred and fifty million copies. Born in Arkansas, Mercer now lives in New England with his family.

Mercer Mayer has been writing and illustrating children's books for over 35 years. He began the popular Little Critter series nearly 30 years ago and titled the first book Just for You. His wife, Gina, has been co-writing the series since the early 1990s. The books in this series address the major issues of growing up through humorous storytelling.

I got this for my daughter as one of her new books for the holiday season. She gets one or two new ones each year. She is a HUGE fan of Mercer Mayer and so this was a natural choice. The story is short enough to let her sit through the whole thing, and is engaging, and very sweet.
Little Critter's family is celebrating Christmas - they are busy doing many of the traditional things that families do at Christmas - Baking cookies together, decorating the tree, writing a letter to Santa, and going shopping for Christmas presents. It is a lift-the-flap book - which engages the child reader as they need to lift the flap on each page to finish out the action on each 2 page spread. The flaps are pretty sturdy too - which is good if your child is a little too rough on their books! Another great selection from Mercer Mayer featuring that adorable Little Critter!!!

In this book, Little Critter and his family go sledding, write letters to Santa, string up Christmas lights, sing Christmas carols and more. Every other page has a flap to lift, revealing a hidden surprise and/or continuing the story. Little Critter is as cute, charming and amusing as ever. Little Critter and sister enjoy getting Christmas gifts, but also have fun spending time with family.

The Little Critter has always been a favorite with me. I remember reading them with my 27 year old daughter when she was young. My husband just found her books down the basement and brought them up for me. There was "Just for You" and "Me and My Day." I am delighted to have another Little Critter book. I bought this one for a youth book club I am starting. Of course we will read this book in December. I'm sure the children will enjoy the book as much as my daughter enjoyed them. I also look forward to reading this book to my grand child. I highly recommend the Little Critter books and I plan to buy more of them.
