Ms Dynamite is a fine example of how British R&B (and to some extent American R&B too, take notes Christina Milian) should sound. Her beats are heavy, her rhymes are true, and most of all, she prooves image is nothing without voice. 2.0 out of 5 stars Ended up giving this to my boyfriend.
I was expecting more of the booty-shaking garage MC'ng I have come to love from Miss Dynamite...and what I got sounded more like something from Faith Evans or Deborah Cox. There's maybe 2 tracks where MD gets down and dirty, most of it is R&B. I was pretty darn disappointed, but my boyfriend loved it so I gave it to him. Don't expect much similar to her earlier work...

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Like Fire..., August 28, 2002

Ms Dynamite is a fine example of how British R&B (and to some extent American R&B too, take notes Christina Milian) should sound. Her beats are heavy, her rhymes are true, and most of all, she prooves image is nothing without voice. On this album which is somewhat reflective of Lauryn Hill, with a modern twist, Dynamite belts out songs like 'It Takes More' which like Pink's 'Most Girls' proves not every girl is satisfied with simple gifts. On 'Dy-Na-Mi-Tee' she reflects on her hard life as a teenager. However, my favorite track is 'Brother', on which she takes a narrative roll again, but this time talking about looking after him in a single parent family.

This album has powerful lyrics (mostly all written by Dynamite herself) and shows that being truthful and wise can be a substitute for amazingly beautiful, or just all about image.

I was in Europe when I first heard her catchy single It Takes More. She doesnt do what I call "ghetto fabolous" music. She doesnt talk about ice or smooth rides. Very kewl. Very worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Craig David's Female Counter, January 5, 2003

Big ups to dis jazzy lil ting hailing from da UK! If you are feeling Craig David's vibe, you will enjoy this sassy lil lady. Lyrically solid, melodically balanced, genre melting, A Little Deeper stands to be one of the best albums of '03 (once released in the US). The album presents a nice mix of club hits like Crazy Crush, Dy Na Mi Te, and Feels So Good (Amazing); coupled with ballads like Brother and the title track A Little Deeper; and tracks to make you think Watch Over Them, Seeds Will Grow.

This album recieves 4 star only because it is not a US selling album at this time, the extra cost is a little absorbant. Once released in the US this album will be a 5!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dynamic dynamo, November 2, 2002
By
This review is from: Little Deeper (Audio CD)
Ms Dynamite is a fiesty dynamo. A deserving winner of UK's most prestigious music prize, The Mercury Prize, A Little Deeper is a perfect album to showcase the talent of this young black lady.

Fusing soul, hip-hop, lounge, funk and pop into one delicious package, Ms Dynamite reminds you of Lauryn Hill in patches, only that she's really funkier and not just about the stern social issues. She mixes business with pleasure and does have some fun on the album. The three singles Dy-na-mi-te, Put Him Out and Take Me Off are already worth the price of the CD.

An excellent album of 2002 which should get some airing Stateside.

'A Little Deeper' is the only album I own where I love every track. Ms Dynamite is a fantastic lyricist and is well worthy of every award she has got this year. My fave tracks are 'A Little Deeper,' 'Put Him Out' and 'Afraid to Fly'

4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect but very encouraging, March 2, 2003

Ms Dynamite is a conscious artist who explores a range of musical styles and blends and writes intelligent, thoughtful lyrics. Some tracks are socio-political: she rails against drugs, bling-bling and domestic abuse (Natural High, It Takes More and Put Him Out respectively). The very best lyric comes on 'Watch Over Them', an amazing track where she calls people to peace and love and sings the lyric accapella. Its incredibly powerful.

Musically there's the irresistable jazzy groove of the radio-friendly 'Dy-na-mi-tee', the acoustic soul of 'Brother' or 'A Little Deeper' and the hip-hop of 'Sick n Tired'. An impressive array of guests feature, particularly the fantastic vocals Kynami Marley on the excellent 'Seed Will Grow'.

It's one or two tracks too long: the irritating 'Krazy Krush' and some more identakit RnB tracks like 'All I Ever' towards the end could have been left off, and its quite derivative; similar to Mary J Blige, Lauren Hill etc, but there's a garage edge from her roots on the rapping sections of 'It Takes More' and 'Natural High'. I was also shocked to see she didn't write any of the music herself - she only wrote the lyrics. However, the social conscience of this album is such a welcome change in the urban scene that you have to love it.

I think many people would like this: many who don't like garage might be impressed. On the other hand, garage fans expecting more like 'Boo!' the Sticky song she was responsible for might be disappointed. Keep an open mind though and you'll enjoy this eclectic melting pot of styles along with its fantastic lyrics. If you want to sample a track, I'd say 'It Takes More' best sums things up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dynamite's exploding wit this album........, February 22, 2003
This review is from: Little Deeper (Audio CD)
Dynamite comes from the streets and this is reflected throughout her album. The introductory track which sets the tone for the rest of the album contains lyrics like 'life's full of pain, life's full of stress, especially when yr comin' from the streets...'
Her released tracks 'Dy-Na-Mi-Tee' 'Put him out' and 'It takes more' are infectous RnB with a garage tinge. However, don't confuse Dynamite as a garage artist...she's principally RnB. Although the tracks she's released are quite 'in yr face' Dynamite does relax with a slower beat with emotional tracks like 'Brotha.' Personally, my favourite tracks are 'seed will grow' which is mellow with Dynamite and Keymani Marley both soundin amazin 2getha, 'Krazy Krush', a track with a great beat, and 'Now u want my love' which is hugely soulful and meaningful.

Maybe a couple of tracks on the album are not providing much different but there isn't much to say about Dynamite thats negative.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great U.K. Import!, October 1, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Deeper (Audio CD)
I too heard Ms. Dynamite while in the U.K. I loved her single "Dy-na-mi-tee" and wanted to here more. Her music is much different then the R&B/Rappers here in the States. Some songs are more soulful and others "tell it like it is". There are a variety of different types of songs from Rap to R&B.. A couple songs did remind me of Pink. Great CD!
