5.0 out of 5 stars What a fond trip down memory lane!
I'll admit up front that two of the stars I gave this 2-on-1 CD was simply for all the wonderful memories this release from 1964 conjures up. All Summer Long was only my second LP purchase. [The first was Meet the Beatles earlier in the year when I was all of eleven!]

5.0 out of 5 stars What a fond trip down memory lane!, November 21, 1999
I'll admit up front that two of the stars I gave this 2-on-1 CD was simply for all the wonderful memories this release from 1964 conjures up. All Summer Long was only my second LP purchase. [The first was Meet the Beatles earlier in the year when I was all of eleven!]

With more than 6,000 titles in my music collection now, I've enjoyed the opportunity to go back and revisit some of these old records on CD and it reminded me of what I loved about these records in the first place. Sure, you still hear the hits on the classic rock stations--and there's plenty of them here: "I Get Around," "Wendy" and "Little Honda" from All Summer Long, as well as "Little Deuce Coupe," "Shut Down," "409" and "Be True to Your School" from Little Deuce Coupe.

But there are other gems on this release to savor: the always tight harmony singing on "Hushabye," the goofiness of "Drive-In," the heartache of "We'll Run Away," the hard-driving "Don't Back Down." Okay, "Our Favorite Recording Sessions" is tough to listen to more than once or twice, especially since it sounds a little too scripted.

The bottom line is this: This disc finds its way into my CD player more often than any of the five discs from the Beach Boys box set. Okay, let's set the way-back machine to 1964. Ready? "Round, round, get around, I get around, yeah, get around, oo-ooh, I get around..." (Enjoy!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Record!! Nice Booklet too., October 29, 1999
By
This review is from: Little Deuce Coupe/All Summer (Audio CD)
Little Deuce Coupe/All Summer Long is a must for fans. Little Deuce Coupe starts out with the title song and other hits such as; Be True to Your School; 409; Shut Down, and other hit car songs. Then we have All summer long with the title song, and other smash hits; the album starts off with I Get Around, a beach boys #1 hit, and perhaps one of there best. Then come titles like Husabye, Little Honda, Wendy, Girls on the Beach, and Dont Back Down. This cd also comes with a informatable booklet that is interchangable so you pick the cover from the two that you like the best.

You definitely get your moneys worth with this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Hardest Rocking Car Songs, The Most Romantic Ballads, March 19, 2007
By
This double album combines LITTLE DEUCE COUPE with ALL SUMMER LONG. As a result, you get the most propulsive, driving rock and roll sound of the early Beach Boys, ("Little Deuce Coupe" "409" "Shut Down") combined with ballads like "Girls On the Beach" and "Hushabye." It's impossible to exaggerate the clean, lush, precision of the Beach Boys' harmonies on "Hushabye," which was originally a primitive Fifties song by a forgotten group called the Mystics. Then there are the driving fast songs on SUMMER which have a sweeter, sleigh bell sound, like "Drive In" and "Do You Remember."

On top of all that this CD package provides great bonus rarities like "Be True To Your School" (the rare hit single version, with twanging guitars and sound effects) and "Carl's Big Chance" the instrumental featuring guitarist Carl Wilson, which shuffles along nicely and even sounds a bit bluesy at times.

This is a spectacular combination of two great albums, just as powerful as the big anthologies which they did in the Seventies, SPIRIT OF AMERICA and ENDLESS SUMMER.

4.0 out of 5 stars We've been having fun., September 19, 2006
By
This CD features two Beach Boys albums.

Little Deuce Coupe was the Beach Boys' fourth album. It features a bunch of their car songs. Four of the songs had been on previous Beach Boys albums. Most of the songs are very good. One of the highlights is the moving a capella tribute to James Dean, "A Young Man is Gone".

All Summer Long was the Beach Boys' sixth album. It also has a "theme", of sorts, that being "fun in the summertime". It was the Beach Boys best album at that point. It features their first #1 hit, "I Get Around". Other than that, it features a number of other songs that are considered to be Beach Boys classics; including "All Summer Long", "Little Honda", "Wendy" and "Girls on the Beach". No bad songs, although "Our Favorite Recording Sessions", which features outtakes of the Beach Boys messing up, is definitely "filler".

There are four bonus tracks; including the superior single version of "Be True To Your School", the previously unreleased "All Dressed Up For School", and alternate takes of "Little Honda" and "Don't Back Down". Any Beach Boys fan should enjoy this CD.

i thought i'd be delighted by this cd , boy what a disappointment i found in the mixing, who ever did the job on this disc was sleeping while mixing this thing some tracks are good but most of them horrifingly mixed in mono the wrong ones. all have to say is the U.S issue of all summer long was great, but they pull it in the usa , so now you don't have a wonderful stereo version , but a sloppy mono copy that is'nt worthy of the beach boys tag. guys stereo works i just dig surfer girl/ shut down vol 2 that rocked i wish i could say the same for this disc.

i mean the ones like shut down & 409 sounds like i'm not hearing like i'm missing a speaker on my radio or something, there's no excitement . i have endless summer & made in the usa those mixes of those tracks jive & roll with energy that sounds like the the boys i've loved all these years. but do love the track car crazy cutie. better luck next time guys. thank goodness i bought a copy of all summer long before those guys at capitol pull it from the U.S .

Thiws is yet again another great cd. both of the albums on here are great. and there are still no bad songs on here, but still the only bad part about here was the fact that Al Jardine is a part of the band.
