Oh what a day, all those years ago when I first discovered the Maysles brothers' documentary Grey Gardens. Drawn into the world of the Edies, Big and Little, like Alice through the Looking Glass, I have never left it, nor would I ever want to.

Meeting Walter Newkirk through an online discussion group was like rounding a bend in the Yellow Brick Road and meeting yet another wonderful character in the Grey Gardens saga. Not only had he interviewed Little Edie, but had formed a friendship with her that included her time in New York after Big Edie had passed on, as well as many years later, up to her retirement in Florida.

Listening to the tape for the first time over the phone -- Walter and I live in different parts of the country -- was like going back for another visit to Grey Gardens. This CD is specifically for fans of the film Grey Gardens. You are there on April 22, 1976 when Walter enters Grey Gardens to interview Edie for his college newspaper : a missing cat was the dramatic adventure for the day, and Little Edie whispers delightfully about conspiracies, lost dreams, and missed opportunities.

Put on the headphones for this one, to really feel like you're there, but also to better catch each whispered phrase from Little Edie, to treasure each morsel of this iconic lady. The raccoons are eating cat chow in the attic, the sea captain's ghost wanders the halls, and Walter Newkirk, "a very polite boy" so says Little Edie, arrives bearing gifts of a Rutgers T-shirt and pastries....Grey Gardens welcomes you back...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Treasure! November 24, 2007
Format:Audio CD
Listening to this CD is like discovering a long lost treasure. You feel as if you acutally sitting in the same room with a group of close friends from the past. Answers to many things that went unanswered in the film and any previous interviews are candidly and openly discussed (Jackie, Lee, Jerry Torre, etc.) which should definitley satify the curiosity of any Grey Gardens fan.
The sound quality here is excellent. The dialogue is crisp, and you can actually hear the creaking floors, meowing cats and the hollow echos while walking through the rooms inside Grey Gardens. The reviewer who complained about this must have a very poor player or be extremely hard of hearing. The wispering by Little Edie during a small part of this interview is very minimal. I believe it adds to realisum, and mystery of this intriging personality. I'm sure it will be the basis of many discussions among Little Edie fans. Much like the film, the more you listen, the more you hear. This CD should become the 'cult classic companion' to the documentary. Facininating stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Little Edie Live Rocks! January 27, 2008
Format:Audio CD
This is really a lost treasure! Little Edie Beale live and uncut! What a wonderful look into Edie's post Grey Gardens (movie) life. Put in your ear buds and listen as she whispers right in your ear. It's so sweet to hear her interacting with this group of college guys, reminiscing about her own college days and the guys she dated. There are some background noises and such but considering this was taped on a hand held tape recorder over 30 years ago, the sound is pretty good. A great buy for any Grey Gardens fan!

4.0 out of 5 stars A WONDERFUL LITTLE VISIT March 26, 2008
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
The only reason i didn't give this 5 stars is because, let's face it, it can't be as special as the films. However, I will take any time listening to the Beales that I can get and this is a fun little romp. Edie is whispering through half of it but even that is charming and funny. As usual, there are some zingers of her wit and unique vocabulary. YOU HAVE TO BE A HARDCORE FAN TO APPRECIATE IT but it is a treat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Executive Producer's Comments November 23, 2007
Format:Audio CD
I am the Executive Producer of Little Edie Live! A Visit To Grey Gardens. Re the review from "Vikki" - unless Vikki is incredibly hard of hearing, the statement that only 25% of what Little Edie has to say in the hour long interview on the CD is "utterly indiscernable" is FALSE. Several people who are over 75 years of age had absolutely no problem hearing what Edie says on the CD, with the exception of Edie's occasional whispers here and there. This CD would not be for sale if there were that many problems with the sound. We made the decision to leave the whispering by Edie on the CD - we have also noted as often as possible (and in the liner notes) that for best results USE HEADPHONES when listening to the CD. The interview stands as is - it was conducted over 30 years ago on a hand held cassette portable tape recorder. It was the foundation for a newspaper interview published in the Rutgers University daily newspaper in 1976. Why was Edie whispering at various times during the interview? You got me...we didn't know either and we didn't ask her! And yes, Mrs. Beale was upstairs. She whispered a lot during the film Grey Gardens also if you remember correctly. I don't believe there is any reason for anyone to feel cheated if they purchase this CD. I am proud to share it as a memento for fans of Grey Gardens. As far as "packaging up 'little scraps of information for profit' - there is little to NO profit which as seen from sales on amazon.com. And anyone can look into that themselves via amazon.com if they would like further clarification.

5.0 out of 5 stars All Hail to the Goddess of Grey Gardens!!!! July 21, 2008
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This CD is a must for all die-hard fans of Edie Beale. She and her Mother, Big Edie, were just DIVINE DIVAS!! The CD consists of two college fellows interviewing Edie jr. It is amusing, and interesting.Edie expounds her wit and wisdom on a variety of topics,in a tone very similar to her cousin Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis. She at times, talks in a kittenish whisper,so do use headphones.Trust me, you do not want to miss a second of this gem of a recording!Again, if you are a fan of the Grey Gardens films, you will LOVE this! Also, may I suggest a book sold at Amazon, written by Lois Wright, who actually lived at Grey Gardens, for 13 months, with Big,and Little Edie. This, in addition to the Edie Live CD, will be super additions to your collection! Long live Staunch Characters!

Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This Cd interview is fantastic! I was so glad to have purchased it. Sure there are times when Edie is whispering & difficult to understand, but that is just part of the charm of the whole interview. I look forward to the book that will be published this spring to accompany this disc!

5.0 out of 5 stars another angle December 21, 2007
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This was a fascinating interview. It gives another dimension to Little Edie and Grey Gardens.
You could see how things taken out of context could be construed as madness.
I came away thinking she wasn't so eccentric, but still fascinating.
