The Large Canterlot Playset is am impressive collection of... random stuff. It even has an oven with eggs and a frying pan... That is not a joke.

This set contains only 3 real items of consequence. Like many of the Canterlot Exclusives, the ponies have tinsel mixed with the nylon strands in their hair, which creates a sparkle effect under certain lighting. This set does NOT, I repeat NOT come with Princess Celestia. It comes with a Shine Brite Princess Luna, and a sparkle hair Pinkie Pie. It also comes with a Gem Carriage, but it has a Princess Celestia theme instead of the Rarity theme on the one sold in the smaller Rarity's Gem Carriage set. There are far too many accessories to count, but the feeling I got, is that these Canterlot sets are a good way to dump extra "smalls" without outright throwing them out. Some people in fan circles have even made the claim that some of the small accessories were recognized from earlier Gen 3.5 product lines.

I purchased the set for the light up Luna toy. For me, that was my only real goal in acquisition. Pinkie Pie is a bonus, and with the glitter hair, she is kinda unique from her normal 5 dollar toy variant.

The major size of this set is one of the most interesting draws. I am personally not a fan of Hasbro's cardboard playsets. Rarities Carousel Boutique is a FINE example of what Hasbro SHOULD be doing with their toys. It is solid plastic construction, and quite animated and interactive... Unlike these canterlot playsets. I can not stress enough the fact that you are paying over 40 dollars for a Shine Brite Princess Luna, a sparkle hair Pinkie Pie, A Princess themed Gem Carriage, and a CARDBOARD BOX filled with tons of little plastic accessory filler.

This castle is way overpriced. Made out of cardboard for this much money??? Wonder why it wasn't made out of plastic? For kids, plastic would have been more preferable and durable.

My three year old LOVES My Little Pony and playing with figurines, so I thought this would be the Perfect gift for her!! Well, when it arrived, I took one look and decided that the $60 was SO not worth it!! It did NOT state that the castle was made of paper...The edges were damaged during shipping, and I know that it will not hold up since she is not that gentle with her toys! Its very cute and has a lot of accessories plus the two ponies and dragon, but for the price why couldn't Hasbro make it PLASTIC or even WOOD?! Bottom line, if your child is really, really into My Little Ponies - get this. Otherwise, save your money and get the accessories for HALF the cost and purchase a plastic dollhouse instead...

Me (the parent): this thing is ridiculously overpriced for what you actually get. It's cardboard. Yes, it folds, but due to being, well, cardboard I'm not sure how long it will hold up. The 'clasp' that holds it together when you fold it is a piece of plastic-y- string. It only comes with two actual ponies.

My 10yo dd: "I love it. It's so pretty." and then she went on in info-mercial style to tell me about a removable shelf, how some ponies were painted wrong (including *gasp* a Princess Celestia who should have had her wing in FRONT of her cutie mark, not behind it), and the issue with the faux cardboard stained glass paintings. She has also pointed out, several times, that she may have to cut the tinsel out of the pony's hair for reasons that are unclear to me. She obviously loves it.

She is gentle with her toys, so I'm sure this thing will hold up just fine. Both sides are highly decorated. And it does include a lot of accessories. And, unlike too many of these toys, she was able to unpack this thing almost entirely by herself (if you've cut yourself on the plastic packaging of toys lately, or dealt with 10 twist ties to hold in a shoe, you'll know that's practically worth a star all on it's own).

Since it wasn't for me, I asked my dd to rate it. She gives it a 4.

edit: after only 24 hours, the button batteries in one of the ponies have already died. Not sure if that will affect your decision to purchase this item or not, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

I own this as an older collector and it looks beautiful as a collection, but I'd be iffy about giving it as a toy. It's full of small parts that will easily get lost and the castle is cardboard that will not last once taken out of the shrink wrap. If you're purchasing this as a toy, have something prepared for your child to keep all the pieces in so they don't lose them and get upset!

Very cute ... so many little items for the castle. Does not state, but the castle is made of durable cardboard, sides fold in and there is a carrying strap on top. You can get it MUCH cheaper at Target. My daughter loves MYP and loves the castle too!

I bought this for my 4 year old's birthday. I was hesitant as it is cardboard, and between her and her 18 month old brother I thought it may just fall apart. I was wrong! This castle has taken a major beating over the past 6 months, and it still looks great. My daughter plays with it almost daily, and it is on display in her new My Little Pony bedroom. My now 2 year old also plays with it when she isn't around, and no real damage has been done. More than worth the money. Great gift for any My Little Pony fans!
