Editorial Reviews

In the kid-vid marketplace, there are few films enjoyed by parent and preschooler alike. This delightful 30-minute program, which is as beautiful to hear as it is to see, is one of them. Engaging for infants and toddlers, the film is based on research that exposure to music, art, and dance at a young age will develop in children a natural enthusiasm for the arts as well as sharpen their creativity and critical-thinking skills. From Monet to Michelangelo, images of works by classical artistss segue slowly into live-action footage, such as that of preschoolers pirouetting in ballet slippers. Harpists, dancers, drummers, and pianists share their talents, and concertos by Vivaldi, Handel, Mozart, and others fill the background. In one scene, a skillful potter molds a lump of clay into a work of art; in another, youngsters try their hand at molding Play-Doh into their own masterpieces. Vincent van Gogh's famous painting Sunflowers gently introduces three youngsters blending watercolor paints into vivid designs. Parents and caregivers can use the film with children as a starting point for simple discussions of favorite colors, musical instruments, and dances. It is also a perfect transitional activity between playtime and quiet time. Don't be surprised if your kids are inspired to try artistic expressions of their own. --Lynn Gibson

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful video!, December 12, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Explorers: The World of Art, Music and Dance, Vol. 1 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My 28-month-old twins have had this video for a year, and they remain enchanted by it. The video contains segments with classical music, jazz, and even a scale or two played on various instruments (piano, saxophone, flute, trumpet, xylophone, and drums); a ballerina with tiny ballet dancers; jazz and tap dancers; and art (modeling with clay, and painting with watercolors, plus some paintings from famous artists like Monet). My kids have lost interest in other videos as time has passed, but this one captures their attention every time. I definitely recommend that you buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bravo! A Must Buy!, June 4, 2002

This video contains imagery and sounds that all children should be exposed to at an early age. Each scene masterfully blends into the next. It kept my child's attention throughout. Unlike the Baby Einstein series, this video mixes both real life visuals and fantasy visuals. I play this tape for my 7 month old son every day. He watches and waits for his favorite parts. Then when the parts are shown, he laughs and moves his arms about. It is an amazing thing to see. This product would also be excellent for older childen as well. A great product. Thank you.
