Book Description

3 and up
This work is intended for ages 3-8 year olds. Now, young children and adults can identify, articulate, and better understand a vast spectrum of emotions in a simple and entertaining way! In "Little Feelings", a book of richly descriptive and perceptive verse for children ages three to eight, Judy S Barton has created a simple vehicle to help youngsters be more comfortable expressing the wide range of feelings they encounter in their early years and as they grow. The book encourages children to share these feelings, and, in doing so, acknowledge their existence. Understanding and accepting what it means to be happy, mad, scared, sad, and just plain alive are essential elements in every child's development. Designed to be read by children on their own or with an adult, "Little Feelings" provides a non-threatening means to address the importance of emotion in a child's voyage of self-discovery. Inviting and often quite funny, "Little Feelings" covers a broad range of emotions. Its family-oriented verse and supportive illustrations will delight young and old alike. The perfect gift for parent and child, "Little Feelings" will stand the test of time and pass through the generations of each caring family.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"...an easy, nonthreatening way for parents to approach sensitive issues with their children." -- Slightly Off

"Little Feelings": Does anyone out there/ Really know how I feel?/ Is it just 'cause I'm little,/ That my feelings can't be real? "Little Feelings" is the first four lines in the first poem of a wonderful book of poetry about children's feelings. Included are not just poems about feeling happy, sad, angry, and lonely, but about worrying, excitement, bad days, responsibility, a new baby in the family, etc. This book can be read by some beginning readers, but it is mostly meant for parents and grandparents to read and discuss with their elementary school-aged children. Each poem is illustrated by an appropriate line drawing. For instance, a line drawing of a dog messing up a child's puzzle is opposite the poem, "I'm Mad": "Have you ever been mad,/ So mad you could scream?/ Your face turns all red,/ And your head fills with steam?/ When you have to do things,/ That you don't want to do,/ Or your friend breaks a toy,/ And tries to blame you./ Getting mad is okay,/ It's what to do that is tough,/ You wouldn't throw fits,/ Or run off in a huff./ Maybe a walk in the yard,/ If you could,/ Better yet, talking about it/ Would really be good./ Getting mad sometimes happens,/ And it doesn't have to be bad,/ Getting mad even happens/ To your mom and your dad." Children will learn that their feelings are not only normal, but everyone has them, and the best way to deal with problems is to talk about them. -- From Independent Publisher
