Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In the sequel to Little Bo, the feline heroine and her sailor friend Billy Bates hitchhike to Paris in Little Bo in France: The Further Adventures of Bonnie Boadicea by Julie Andrews Edwards, illus. by Henry Cole. The illustrated tour includes the Eiffel Tower and Montmartre before the pair boards a barge bound for the South of France.

From School Library Journal

Grade 2-4-This sequel to Little Bo (Hyperion, 1999) follows the feline and a seaman, Billy, as they traverse France in search of work. They have varied adventures in Paris, travel down the Seine on a barge, encounter a mistral, and end up in Cannes for a presumably happily ever after ending. The simple text in this chapter book is peppered with French words and reads like a travelogue. Cole's oil-on-paper illustrations support the action of the story and admirably capture the ambience of France. A supplemental purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Big little Fan of Bonnie Boadicea, October 14, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Bo in France (Hardcover)
When my daughter was born in 1997, I enrolled her in two book clubs: Random House and Children's Book of the Month. The last book that I bought for her from the CBM club was Julie Andrew's "Little Bo." At the age of 3 1/2 she was already cat crazy like her mom. "Little Bo" quickly became a favorite bedtime story. In fact, she named her cat (a male black & white tuxedo) Bounder, in honor of Little Bo's father. We must have read that story at least ten times already. So with the fate of Billy and Little Bo uncertain on the last page, we were delighted when "Little Bo in France" was finallly available.

What a wonderful story and delightful pictures. It was nice to see Tubs show up in Paris. I hope there are many more Little Bo stories left for Julie to write about. We want to know how Maximillian, Samson, Polly and Bounder are doing. Sarabande and Princess, as we all know, are safe and sound with Mrs. Edith Edge. One can only hope that she's fired that horrible Withers by now!

My daughters (4 and 7) both love this book (and the others in the series.) Great story and great illustrations. I also love the text, and that it does not feel like I am reading a kids book that has been dumbed down for them. Reading books with more grown up words and descriptions helps to grow my children's vocabulary, and I appreciate that.
