4.0 out of 5 stars These guys are doing it right!, April 18, 2002

A friend recently turned me on to this CD. If you like your blues with that Excello flavor, this CD is for you. The musicianship is first rate, and the recording sound really evokes that old Excello feeling. Therefore, it's very fitting that Excello star, Lazy Lester guests on this CD. As well as being an outstanding Harmonica player and tasty guitar player, Little George has a hell of a set of pipes, and seems equally comfortable singing either blues or soul. When I saw that Johnny Ace's, "The Clock," was included on this CD, I guess I would have to say I was dubious about a white band from the UK covering such a treasured R&B standard, but George and the guys nail it! One of the best CD's I've heard this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not many new blues releases come close to this, January 9, 2007

This is hands down one of the best blues CDs to be released in this century. George is an incredible singer (check out his falsetto on Johnny Ace's "The Clock") and that's what the blues is about. But he also plays extremely raw guitar and harp, with a natural feel for the deep blues phrasing, but a modern kind of drive. The sound of the record is great, and there is not a bad cut on this. I'd give it 10 stars if it were possible. If you love the real blues, this is it. And from a Greek immigrant to England, no less.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best artist hardly anyone knows about, February 18, 2004

this guy should be huge. this should be someone you and friends know about. but, unfortunately just about everyone doesn't. he is an incredible singer. a cross between 50's memphis R&B/soul and chicagp blues. the record sounds unique because of it. the sound of the recording has the just one to pick it all up vibe. its all smooth and syrupy goodness. and to top it off this guy's greek born and british based. look at his hat and beard! do you not genius smirking at you on the cover? yeah i thought so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album--Can't Believe I Had Not Heard of These Guys, September 11, 2002

Saw these guys in San Francisco and if anything their live show is better than the album. I am amazed that I had not heard of them before.

Much of the material is written by George Sueref, but it all sounds like classic stuff from the 50s and 60s. If you like the blues, early R&B/early rock, Stax records, etc., you are going to immediately like this album. I have been listening to it every day for weeks and every cut has grown on me.

Great harp, great vocals from Little George, classic sounding, not overdone bluesy guitar, with to me a sort of rockabilly, Sun Records, plus non-Motown soul flavor. Infectious beat. Again, it sounds very authentic and cut after cut are absolute classics to me.

Their version of Johnny Ace's "The Clock" is, I hate to say it, better than the original. As close to perfect as it gets.

Why the Brits can sometimes illuminate American music better than modern Americans is beyond me, but it seems very true with respect to this album. I would buy the album "cold" and listen to it until it started to sink in. You won't regret it. Check out Sueref's web page for more.

This is a great CD. See the reviews under the US version. The import is cheaper, however. I wonder if the artist makes more on the import, too.
