This review is from: Little Giant 10111 Wing Span/Wall Standoff (Tools & Home Improvement)
As a designer and also very handy guy with tools, I have to honestly say this is one of the worst accessories I have ever bought. I really wish I had gone somewhere and looked at it carefully before I ordered it.Yes the wing span/ wall standoff will work on a wall and span a window. The device even has potential as a stabilizer for getting on a roof, however the soft rubber bumpers and the shape of the bar extrusion are the problem with it. A ladder stabilizer is a great device for cleaning gutters, especially on a house with large overhangs, where a ladder can't be placed against the wall and the gutters still be reached. A ladder stabilizer not only stabilizes the ladder due to it's width, but also holds the ladder off the gutters to prevent damage to them. Do NOT count on this device to do that because the rubber bumpers will wear through quickly and the sharp edge of the standoff bar will dig into the roof shingles. I was fortunate enough to notice the problem on my forth trip up the ladder just before the pads wore completely through. Putting another brand of bumper on the standoff bar will not work, because of the sharp edge of the bar extrusion will puncture them. I'm back to using my extension ladder and Werner stabilizer that has lasted for years. My guess is given how fast the bumpers wore on my ladder with light use, they would soon wear out on brick walls too. Little Giant needs offer a bumper that can withstand at least moderate use on a rough surface. This product had great potential but a flimsy part made it a waste of my money.

I just used my Little Giant standoff today for the first time.As usual it is a well made product from Little Giant and its easy to put on but it does have its limits. It works well but if your working in a tight areas, this thing cannot be used.Little Giant should have made the arms "telescoping" so you could adjust the width. You can adjust the arms a bit but only by sliding the clamp left or right on the ladder step. This thing is about 4ft wide so you better check the width of the area your gonna be working on before you purchase this.

I blush to be so effusive about a product, but the Little Giant ladder system is one great product. The sense of security you get from the 1st time you climb up on one is worth the price.I'm painting the 2nd story windows and eves in my Mother's apartment building, and the Wing Span Wall Standoff makes this possible. At 61 years, I wasn't looking forward to getting up in the air and trying to work at a too narrow angle to the walls...tiring and, somewhat dangerous. The Wing Span Standoff, added to my Little Giant ladder, gives me a wide, secure, contact that allows me to work at a comfortable angle, bringing my body weight into the wall rather than forcing me away, as happens when the ladder angle to the wall is too small. It's only a small exaggeration to say that I feel almost as comfortable working at 2nd story height as if I were standing on the ground. Drawbacks? It would be great if the product had adjustable arms. Also, because the Wing Span is built like a tank, it's heaviness makes it somewhat difficult to get the ladder up in the air and to manuver. Final thought: The Wing Span is a great addition to the Little Giant Ladder system and greatly enhances its usefullness.
