I just used my Little Giant standoff today for the first time.As usual it is a well made product from Little Giant and its easy to put on but it does have its limits. It works well but if your working in a tight areas, this thing cannot be used.Little Giant should have made the arms "telescoping" so you could adjust the width. You can adjust the arms a bit but only by...

This review is from: Little Giant 10111 Wing Span/Wall Standoff (Tools & Home Improvement)
As a designer and also very handy guy with tools, I have to honestly say this is one of the worst accessories I have ever bought. I really wish I had gone somewhere and looked at it carefully before I ordered it.

Yes the wing span/ wall standoff will work on a wall and span a window. The device even has potential as a stabilizer for getting on a roof, however the soft rubber bumpers and the shape of the bar extrusion are the problem with it.

A ladder stabilizer is a great device for cleaning gutters, especially on a house with large overhangs, where a ladder can't be placed against the wall and the gutters still be reached. A ladder stabilizer not only stabilizes the ladder due to it's width, but also holds the ladder off the gutters to prevent damage to them. Do NOT count on this device to do that because the rubber bumpers will wear through quickly and the sharp edge of the standoff bar will dig into the roof shingles. I was fortunate enough to notice the problem on my forth trip up the ladder just before the pads wore completely through. Putting another brand of bumper on the standoff bar will not work, because of the sharp edge of the bar extrusion will puncture them. I'm back to using my extension ladder and Werner stabilizer that has lasted for years.

My guess is given how fast the bumpers wore on my ladder with light use, they would soon wear out on brick walls too.

Little Giant needs offer a bumper that can withstand at least moderate use on a rough surface. This product had great potential but a flimsy part made it a waste of my money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wing Span review, September 3, 2010

I blush to be so effusive about a product, but the Little Giant ladder system is one great product. The sense of security you get from the 1st time you climb up on one is worth the price.
I'm painting the 2nd story windows and eves in my Mother's apartment building, and the Wing Span Wall Standoff makes this possible.
At 61 years, I wasn't looking forward to getting up in the air and trying to work at a too narrow angle to the walls...tiring and, somewhat dangerous.
The Wing Span Standoff, added to my Little Giant ladder, gives me a wide, secure, contact that allows me to work at a comfortable angle, bringing my body weight into the wall rather than forcing me away, as happens when the ladder angle to the wall is too small.
It's only a small exaggeration to say that I feel almost as comfortable working at 2nd story height as if I were standing on the ground.
Drawbacks? It would be great if the product had adjustable arms.
Also, because the Wing Span is built like a tank, it's heaviness makes it somewhat difficult to get the ladder up in the air and to manuver.
Final thought: The Wing Span is a great addition to the Little Giant Ladder system and greatly enhances its usefullness.

A simple accessory that creates easy access to all work areas (especially when painting), and simultaneously provides ample space to "keep it neat". Who says, "work is not fun"? Maybe not, but this accessory makes my painting life a bit more enjoyable!

5.0 out of 5 stars Little Giant Ladder, September 7, 2011

I very rarely write WEB reviews and I just had to write a review on my Little Giant. I'm a 62 yr old Grandmother and have had my Little Giant for almost 6 years. I'm not afraid to tackle any work on my house including a new custom built Kitchen I hung all my cabinets using my Little Giant, I painted 2 of my homes, both inside and outside Ond home was 2 story with a 3 story backside). I'm currently remodeling my latest home in San Diego. New walls, new ceilings, all new trimwork, new kitchen, even the marble floor. I couldn't do the work without my Little Giant. It is not heavy if you are comparing it to other heavy duty ladder with the same features of this ladder. Oh, did I say this laddar? I should have said these ladders as it converts into 2 ladders allowing you to create your own 6' cat walk between the ladders.

Seriously I can not live in my home without my Little Giant. In fact I had the misfortune of having my Little Giant stollen in 2006. I was so upset by my lost that my significant other went out an bought me a new Giant little ladder.

BTW, not only am I 62 yrs old,I stand just short of 5'6" and weigh 132 pounds. I'm definitely not a heavy weight unless I'm on my Ladder. It's the best investment for homeowners.

I think I added safety when I use this on my ladder, but I mainly purchased the wall standoff in order to get farther out from the house & overhang to make it safer and easier to clean my gutters. I think 'I did good'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy for certain situations, December 14, 2011

I use this standoff the get on roofs without tearing up gutters. It works great. It seems to work better for me when I put it on the second rung instead of the top. Like another poster mentioned, it is really intended to standoff a wall, not a roof, so the rubber stoppers don't lay flat against the roof. They are only touching at the bottom, which still works for me. I just pull the bottom of the ladder out a little further.

It's fairly easy to get on and off, but just enough trouble that I only use it when neccesary. But for the price, you can't go wrong.

I sure do love my Little Giant ladder though. So much better than any other I've tried!

Now I don't almost kill myself installing sun shades & cleaning my 2nd story windows. Really stabilizes the Little Giant when it's at full extension. Great purchase! Highly recommended! Purchased 3/2011

3.0 out of 5 stars Limited use by design, March 20, 2011

This review is from: Little Giant 10111 Wing Span/Wall Standoff (Tools & Home Improvement)
This Wall Standoff can only be used as Wall Standoff. I was planning to use it also as a Roof Standoff. But it doesn't work. The mounting angle was not flexible by design. they should design it better so it could be used for roof too. All they need to provide is a mounting piece for a different mounting angle.
