Product Description

From the Manufacturer

A stepladder, an extension ladder, and a convenient scaffold system, all in one! The Little Giant is an all-in-one ladder system that is free from spreader bars and braces. The hinge, the ladder's strongest point, makes them unnecessary. The hinge is stronger than its rails or rungs, and was purposely designed that way because the hinge is where the most stress is applied. Plus, it's easy to operate. A simple flick of the wrist is all it takes to maneuver. This type II ladder is load rated at 225 pounds. 9- to 15-foot extension height. 4- to 7-foot stepladder height. 27 pounds.

We have a brownstone in Boston w/ a stepped entry way that is made for giants (ok...basketball players..centers). It's almost impossible to paint everything with a step ladder or extension ladder; in our case, it was worse because we were stripping 10 layers of ancient paint with a heat gun. This little giant made it possible and only felt a little shaky at the top (or it could be that I'm afraid of heights :-)

Only negative is that if you try to use the work platform while one side is nearly vertical like we had to do on the stairs, the work platform won't stay in place because it's at an angle when it's extended out. You'd think Wing Enterprises would have figured out a way to latch it in place or level it. When this happens, you have to stand on the rungs which are not that comfortable because they are fairly narrow compared to a normal ladder. The 10203 is also a little wobbly in extension ladder mode; I'm not sure if the 10103 is since it has sturdier hinges that weigh 8 lbs more.

However, that being said, the Little Giant rulezzzzz! It collapses down to a height smaller than the small 6' step ladders. It's not as light, but that's the price you pay for something that is much more flexible and useful; I know of no other product that can do what it can do with the weight and size of the Little Giant. We found it locally for a cheaper price than Amazon (sorry Amazon) or we would have ordered from Amazon because that's where we found out about it. BTW, the box for the 10203 barely fits in an SUV. No idea how you'd get the 10104 (the longest one) home w/o sticking it on the roof).

4.0 out of 5 stars A ladder of all trades--, May 27, 2001

The Little Giant Ladder System was the answer to all of our ladder needs. When it is fully extended, it is slightly wobbly, but who wouldn't be at 19'? I love how it stores so compactly. This ladder gives us the versatility we need to reach our 14' high garage ceiling to change light bulbs and to reach our roof line as well. Though a bit pricy for a homeowner, it solved our high reach needs!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great flexibility, June 15, 2001

I've had one of these for about a year, and they're great. Unparalleled flexibility - use it on stairs, uneven ground, jammed up against a wall with one leg vertical and the other out at another angle, etc. You can also flip them around so that the legs are in line, turning it into a regular extension ladder (except without the pesky rope in the middle that I always seem to trip on), and you double the reach of the ladder. I can go from a 6 foot high A-frame ladder to a 22+ foot high linear ladder in no time flat, while only needing the storage space of the 6-footer. The wide spacing of the extensions makes it super stable, too.

This comes at a price - they're pretty heavy, so it's not for stuff like changing lightbulbs. For heavier duty work, nothing beats them.

Build quality is outstanding - the BMW of ladders (maybe no accident - supposedly the ladder design originated in Germany many years ago).

The accessories are also good. The flip out platform is very handy for those times when you're on the ladder for long periods, a big foot-saver.
