I have 2 fiberglass stepladders, a 6ft and a 12ft. The 12 footer is so unwieldy it's almost useless (I had cathedral ceilings in my old house).
This Little Giant folds to a compact size, so I feel confident about carrying it up and down stairs without tearing up the wall. Because of this, it's also easier to store than your average extension ladder.
When you go to unfold it, it's design genius begins to shine. The locking tabs in the middle stay open until the next stop. Then they 'pop' into place with a solid click. Whether unfolded to a stepladder, or out to a full extension ladder, it feels safe and solid, even for a large guy like me. As a stepladder, one can ascend either side.
Since the length is adjustable, it can be made into an offset angle to accomodate stairs, etc. Also, when using it as an extension ladder, you can make it just as long as you need. For example, last week I did my gutters: as I moved downhill, I just extended the ladder as needed.
Unless I drop it off my 2nd floor deck on to a rock, I expect this to last longer than I will.

I do a lot of major renovations to my home and wanted one of these for a long time. It has some very good features, but it is NOT a good replacement for your standard aluminum A-frame. The good news is that (1) it is rock solid and very stable; (2) the ability to set the two sides to different lengths is extremely useful, for stairs but also in many other applications; (3) having rungs on both sides is handy; and (4) it does replace a short extension ladder. These are all major strong points. However, the weaknesses are VERY annoying if you use your ladder a lot. The very first thing you will notice is, this thing is much, much heavier than your old aluminum A-frame. Not heavy to the point that you will need help with it, but heavy to the point that if you're doing a job that requires frequent re-positioning, it will get annoying by the end of the day. You will end up using your light Werner aluminum ladder. Look at it this way... they didn't put wheels on the high end models for no reason (but they don't help that much). The next problem you will notice is that if the ladder is set even moderately high, you can't easily operate the hinge at the top of the "A". This means that if you have to fold the ladder to move it to the next location, or to manuever it through stud framing, you either have to collapse the legs or tip the ladder (awkward at best). Compared to the speed and ease of folding a standard ladder, this gets old in a hurry. It's not a problem if you change a light bulb once in a while or paint for a weekend every few years.... but if you are using your ladder frequently, you will use find yourself using your "old-style" ladder, as it is much more convenient. Next, I have to mention that the rungs are downright uncomfortable.Read more ›

I really like this ladder quite a lot. I'm an older guy and it's not like I'm going to be up on the roof again, not in this life anyway. So the size is just right for me and the normal types of jobs I encounter around the house. You can get into any tight spot and the ladder is very sturdy and easy to use, once you get the hang of it. I watched some tutorials online, which helped. Just be careful until you are used to it. Be especially careful when lowering the extension feature and make sure your feet are not underneath. The first time I released the latches, the thing came down like a guillotine. Luckily, It just caught my toe, but if my foot had been a few inches further up, I'd be writing this review while waiting in the emergency room. Also, there are quite a few moving parts, so it won't be hard to pinch yourself if you aren't careful. But I guess that's case for almost any mechanical device. Also, I got this using Amazon Prime, and it was the best price I found anywhere. It arrived in just one day too, with free shipping. I highly recommend this if you are looking for a cool-looking ladder that is solid and versatile as well.

This ladder is perfect for a 105 lb weakling. It is sturdy to climb on, easy to store, can be easily put in the car.
I was surprised to find the cableguy using it in the basement while installing a new line! I am sure it will
have unlimited uses in the future!

It is a little heavy to carry around and a little hard to unfold and extend.
The size a little big to fit in any car's trunk

As far as the different ways you can use the ladder, the light weightness and the quality of the product that is all good. The down side for me is that the steps are very narrow which I am disappointed in. I would like them to be wider like the old tradional wooden ladder we have, to feel more secure, especially when you are going to be on them for a good length of time. Example, painting a home, not just a quick up and down!

I have not been able to pinch my hands as the instructions warn is possible, a good start. I weigh 250 pounds before ever stepping onto the ladder with equipment and never do I feel like the ladder is going to let me down......hard. The 13 foot length is good for around the house in the many configurations possible, and just long enough to use when cleaning gutters because you need at least 3 feet above the gutter for safety. But for that annual job I would recommend the optional ladder stand off if your gutters are fragile. [Amazon has it!]
