5.0 out of 5 stars Great Pump for the $$$ Saved my neighbor
I currently have the exact same pump installed in my basement. This pump has been in service for 10+ years and it has been pumping almost every day keeping my finished basement dry. I bought this pump for a backup after a neighbor's pump failed and his basement started to flood. I used my old pump to save my neighbors basement from further damage.

Thanks Little...

1.0 out of 5 stars My Little Giant died today
After a major basement flooding disaster about 2 years ago, my local plumbing supply store recommended that I replace my old unit with a Little Giant Model 6. It worked like a charm the past year and a half, however, this weekend, when it was really needed, it apparently went into cardiac arrest. Fortunately, after the last disaster I also installed a Basement Watchdog...

I had one of these for years and bought another brand for a new sump I dug. Ouch. Will not do that again. This is a solid piece of equipment and well worth the money if it lasts the 10+ years it's counteart has lasted so far. The integral switch on the side is the key and it does the job keeping the water table below my house.

1.0 out of 5 stars My Little Giant died today, March 7, 2011
This review is from: Little Giant 6-CIA 1/3 Horsepower Submersible Sump Pump (Tools & Home Improvement)
After a major basement flooding disaster about 2 years ago, my local plumbing supply store recommended that I replace my old unit with a Little Giant Model 6. It worked like a charm the past year and a half, however, this weekend, when it was really needed, it apparently went into cardiac arrest. Fortunately, after the last disaster I also installed a Basement Watchdog battery/backup pump in the hole, which kept the water from rising and becoming a basement disaster. I think I'm going to go back to a more traditional pump, with an external float. As I mentioned previously, the pump worked well for minor storms. But this weekend, when we had significant rain, its little engine died. Not what I expected from a pump graded for commercial/home use.

As for the Basement Watch Dog system, I'd strongly recommend this to anyone with a finished basement. We had two major floods and it was a real pain to restore the basement. Even with the Owens Corning Basement system. I only have one issue with the Watchdog system. You need to use their battery or you hear a constant battery water level alarm. In my system, I allowed the battery level to get too low and I ignored the alarm, so the battery died. I replaced it with a car battery, and now we have to reset the alarm when we're in the basement. Small issue though, compared to what it saved us today.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little pump, December 17, 2010

This sump has a nice small profile for tight pit spaces. This is my first experience in using a pressure switch and it's performing well. It triggers the pump to turn on when the water level is about 5" above the pump. I'm using it to pump water out of my pit with an 8 foot head and it has no trouble clearing 4-5 gallons of water in a pump cycle. The pump has been installed and working flawlessly for about 2 months from the time of this writing. The one thing that has me concern is that the body does have rust stains over it. I will continue to monitor this to make sure the integrity of the body is not at risk.

I bought this pump to replace the same model that I had had running for 25 years!! I do get quite a bit of water in my sump pits on occassion and these Little Giant pumps can run forever. When my old one finally bit the dust it had been running for 3 weeks straight! I highly recommend these pumps, they are built to last and do a fantastic job for a reasonable price.

3.0 out of 5 stars not totally happy but then again I was abusing it..., February 23, 2007

I use it for my koi pond. When water gets low or when the filter gets clogged the automatic switch would go on and off every 15 seconds, which in itself is OK, but if that continues for days, like when I am out of town or simply being my lazy self, the switch gets stuck. I had to replace the switch with an older one from a broken pump that was bought quite a few years ago. You know, they just don't make things with quality parts like they used to in the old days... or maybe I should just remember to get by old butt off the sofa and clean the filter more often.
