Linda Lewis was UK based and had had a career with Reprise records before this album NOT A LITTLE GIRL ANYMORE was released in 1975 with a move to Arista. There were many reasons for this album and its title. Linda is gifted with an amazing 5 octave range very similar to that of Minnie Ripperton. All her albums with Reprise were succesful but tended to use her range to display a youthful glee in her performances. With this release for Arista Linda, now 25, was prepared to show everyone that her girlish voice could sing mature heartfelt material and she more than succeeded. BBR brings us this monumental album digitally remastered for superb audio with extensive liner notes and an amazing 7 bonus tracks.There are many highlights here. With the opening (REMEMBER THE DAYS) OF THE OLD SCHOOL YARD her rendition is superb. Her voice soars over her full range with an amazing emotional performance and the tone is then set for the whole album. Even IT'S IN HIS KISS while playful and fun showed a more mature Linda. Other highlights are the ballads THIS TIME IT'LL BE SWEETER, (I'M) NOT A LITTLE GIRL ANYMORE and I DO MY BEST TO IMPRESS. The reggae and soulful MY GRANDADDY COULD REGGAE and CORDON BLUES show her immense diversity as a performer. With the uptempo LOVE WHERE ARE YOU NOW and ROCK AND ROLLER COASTER she has great fun and shows yet another side of her versatility. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE is a soaring anthemic tour de force for Linda that is another highlight. And the bonus tracks are all treasures not to be missed. Standouts with them are BABY I'M YOURS, SO MANY MYSTERIES TO FIND and IT ALL COMES BACK TO LOVE. If you have never heard of Linda Lewis this is a find that should not be missed. If you know her then you know this is a must. This is a soul/r@b singer of the highest caliber and this cd is an amzing collection of songs showcasing her amazing range and and vocal ability. I highly recommed this cd to any lover of r@b/soul or just quality music. Your cd library will thank you for this addition. |
