finally a book about Miriam without an agenda!,
By
This review is from: A Little Girl Named Miriam (Hardcover)
There are a lot of "Miriam" books out there. They appear in bookstores every year at Passover (Pesach) time, and most of them have a strongly feminist agenda. A very obvious one that sometimes bends accuracy, diverges from authentic Jewish practice, or just inserts itself so much that it impedes enjoyment in the book. This book tells you about the prophetess based entirely on the Torah and traditional explanations of the original text (midrashim). The result is that Miriam's magnificence is shown, not told. Her actions are truly inspirational! Children enjoy the story and the simple, cheerful illustrations very much (both my own children and others I've observed at read-alouds). I highly recommend this book.
