Book Description

7 and up
Provides ideas and instructions for projects that involve growing various kinds of plants indoors during the different seasons.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 3-6?Van Hage offers 12 indoor and outdoor projects for each season. Sunflower seeds, baby tomatoes, a family of silly "grass people," and an orange tree planted inside an orange rind are included. There are even directions for a dinosaur-theme terrarium. Instructions are clear, with each step carefully explained and those activities that require adult help are indicated. The full-color illustrations, a combination of photographs and collage, are attractive and informative. While not as comprehensive as Diane Rhoades's Garden Crafts for Kids (Sterling, 1995) or Rosalind Creasy's Blue Potatoes, Orange Tomatoes (Sierra Club, 1994), Little Green Thumbs is a solid addition for garden/ craft collections.?Marion F. 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent: easy and beautiful "How-To" projects for children, April 29, 2011
This review is from: Little Green Thumbs (Library Binding)
Kid friendly, beautiful, informative and fun!

I'm an elementary school teacher and these projects are perfect add-ons for our science unit on plants...and they are also great to do at home with my 2nd grade niece! There are four chapters: Projects for Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter/Anytime. Each chapter has four inexpensive and adorable projects. Kids learn to plant from seeds, cuttings and bulbs. Example: Grow Crocus on shells and pebbles for a nice tabletop display, grow an orange seed inside a pot made of a half orange peel, grow a sunflower in a flowerpot, grow baby tomatoes from seed, grow a "magical" plant, the Mimosa pudica, which closes quickly when touched, from seed.

These projects are going to be fun to do in my classroom, and also fun to do with my 7 year old niece. Of all the plant project books for kids that I've seen, this is my favorite by far!
