A guide to a state of grace - Jeffry Hendrix's "A Little Guide for Your Last Days",
By
This review is from: A Little Guide For Your Last Days (Hardcover)
As one brother-in-arms who supposedly taught Jeffry Hendrix/Athos how to "do" kidney cancer (p 93) I must confess that his new book, "A Little Guide for Your Last Days" truly surpassed my expectations, leaving pages in my copy dog-eared throughout.
Jeff writes (p 29), "Nothing can separate us from His love so long as we stay in a faith relationship with Him through the Church..." and I could not agree more. For me, another who was diagnosed with cancer and who finally stopped fighting Our Lord coming face-to-face and heart-to-heart with the love from and for the Body of Christ, the book flows smoothly - the way a guidebook ought. So you think that once you have accepted your diagnosis that you want to "practice" being an angel (p 35), well think again. Jeff leads you through most all the false premises of `how we are to do' death. He doesn't mince words and yet with his honest pastoral spirit he opens your eyes to this mystery that is a part of everyone's life. Amazingly in just a few pages Jeff helps us to recognize just how rusty and fallen over our antennae is and he comes with a tool kit showing us how to straighten our antennae so as be to be able to pick up God's signal once again allowing us to humbly enter into a state of grace (p 49). Reading Jeff's book made me realize the importance and our need of being in this state of grace throughout our lives and not waiting to trip into it at death's doorstep. I highly recommend the book and while you are at it get a second copy to pass on to your pastor for recommending it to others in need. So lifting our swords high we cheer out: un pour tous, tous pour un ("One for all, all for one")! Brother-in-arms Aramis % David Nybakke

Sincere and Real,
This review is from: A Little Guide For Your Last Days (Hardcover)
I read this book because I have known the author, Jeff Hendrix, for many years. The book was so quintessentially Jeff, with a depth born of the adversity he has experienced. Knowing Jeff as I do, I can assure any reader, Jeff is the "real deal" and is sincere in what he writes. This is a MUST READ for people facing their last days soon, or not so very soon.

A little "catechism" for your last days,

Good book with a lot of deep thoughts, along with some humor to deal with a fatal disease or any looming disaster, for that matter. Gives you a lot to think about (I'm going through the same situation he was in), and helps give comfort. The author himself does let you know from the beginning that he is going to talk a lot about faith and belief, so, if that makes you gag, you may not like this. However, he has a lot to say about courage, endurance, and optimism, and I think that even a devout agnostic will learn from his thoughts and discussions, if they keep an open mind. He is a former Protestant minister who converted to Roman Catholicism, and does talk about the rites of the church, and attainment of a "state of grace", but I found it applicable to a wide range of belief systems. Aside from the sales pitch for the Church of Rome, there is a lot in here for anyone staring death in the face, or anyone who knows someone who is.

Dying Grace,

Jeffery received much dying grace. He is now in God's presence but has left a road map for the way home. His section on praying for enemies will give you peace no matter where you are in life's journey. Jeffry had more spiritual courage than most and I thank God he shared his God given strength.
