Excellent Information About Soy/Phytoestrogens, May 13, 1998
This review is from: With a Little Help From the Soybean (Spiral-bound)
Julia Elliott is more than a writer, researcher and lecturer. Julia is a "Crusader," a woman who has selflessly shared her extraordinary knowledge about the benefits of SOY / phytoestrogens, especialy for women during menopause. I founded the Power Surge community for women at midlife, and in menopause, four years ago on AOL (keyword: powersurge@thrive) in hopes of finding answers for myself in this newfound state of peri-menopause, and sharing what I learned with other women.
The largest segement of our population, the baby boomers, are all hovering about the "50" mark -- women who are suddenly finding themselves in peri-menopause and dealing with physicians whose customary procedure is to write a prescription for hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Women need to be advised of their options during menopause. Every woman doesn't have to take synthetic hormones. This is where Julia's knowledge, caring and compassion is so important. Her book contains all the information and fabulous recipes every woman needs to replace some of the lost estrogen and progesterone during menopause, without doing so synthetically, but more importantly, without the risk involved with HRT to cancer, stroke, hypertension, blood clots, et al.
I'm proud to recommend Julia Elliott's work to every woman who wants to empower herself and manage through menopause in a safe and natural way. Soy is becoming increasingly popular as women are becoming increasingly disgusted with being plyed with drugs.
Thank you for your fabulous contribution to the women of America, Julia. "With A Little Help From The Soybean" is right up there among the ten most recommended books by Power Surge on AOL.

Natural Help to Health, March 1, 2002
This review is from: With a Little Help From the Soybean (Spiral-bound)
I wanted to comment on this book because I have lived it.
I went through an ordeal with the medications doctors gave me to help protect me during menopause.
I did not like the side effects, so together with my new doctor, I explored the world of soy for this purpose.
The results were perfect. Just what my body needed.
That is why I wrote the book, "With a Little Help From The Soybean."
But, because it is so simple, some may not think it effective, but it is just the opposite.
There are no hidden costs, no continuous payment schedules, just buy your soybeans right out of the bin at the health food store, or grow your own, it is easy. If you can grown green beans, you can grow soybeans.
Together with a diet that includes lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, daily exercise and lots of water, it can help the menopausal woman ward off the effects of waning estrogen.
Because soy has the ability to only give you additional estrogen through its natural sources, it does not allow the body to turn it into estrogen unless you are lacking it.
That is the beauty of it.
If I have enough natural estrogen floating through my system already, it does not allow the system to turn it into more estrogen. But, if you are lacking estrogen, it will help supplement it.
I think this is why the Asians have such sucess with keeping their menopausal and post meno pausal women free of the menopausal effects.
I have done this for over eight years, and have compiled a book that will help incorporate soy into the everyday meal plans.
No special food to buy, just the soybean, in its purest form.
It is simple and cost effective.
I think that is why a lot of women question it, because it does not cost an arm and a leg, and can be grown in your own back yard.
Sometimes the best things in life are almost free.
Buy the book and make the crossover to healthier you without a major investment.
